The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and the Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre are inviting applications for the position of an Academic Infectious Diseases physician.  This full-time appointment will be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto with a position description as a Clinician Scientist at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor. It is expected that the position will be approximately 25% clinical and 75% related to research.  The expected start date is July 1, 2026, or another mutually agreeable date thereafter.
We are seeking a clinician scientist who will foster excellence in academic infectious diseases. In particular, our hospital has established a strategic direction to accelerate clinical trials. The successful candidate will be expected to have a vision to develop a research program that will foster innovative clinical trials to improve the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of infectious diseases. The successful applicant must demonstrate specialization and accomplishments in research. Research excellence will be assessed by research grants, publications in leading journals, invited presentations at conferences, awards, and other related accomplishments; these will be assessed in the context of career stage.
The successful applicant will join the Division of Infectious Diseases at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, which provides inpatient consultation services for complex patient populations, spanning the full range of medical, surgical, oncology, and trauma/critical care services.  The role will include approximately 6-12 weeks of coverage of the inpatient infectious diseases service each year, and one half-day per week combined general infectious diseases and Complex OutPatient Antibiotic Treatment (COPAT) clinic.  The candidate will be expected to seek cross appointment in the University of Toronto School of Graduate Studies, and to supervise graduate students as well as medical trainees in clinical research.
The successful candidate must hold an MD degree and a PhD degree, or currently be enrolled in a PhD program or have other equivalent training and experience; and must have or be eligible for certification in Infectious Diseases by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or international equivalent; and have or be eligible for medical licensure from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. 
Estimated compensation will be in the range of $300,000-$350,000 commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience.  The successful candidate will be eligible for membership in the Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Association through which clinical billings and benefits will be administered. The candidate will also be able to participate in the department’s group medical, dental and life insurance benefit plans.
