Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, the Building Superintendent/Handyperson will fulfill day-to-day tasks in a timely manner ensuring that the building operates safely and efficiently. The position also requires compliance with Black & McDonald codes of conduct, health, safety and environmental policies and safe work practices along with any client specific protocol. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Perform general maintenance tasks including painting walls, surface touch ups, wall-mounting, ceiling tiles, light installations and basic repairs.
Maintain a clean, organized and safe workspace while adhering to safety protocols.
Assist with moving furniture or equipment as required for various projects.
Assemble furniture and support ongoing maintenance and painting needs.
Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of safety equipment including:
Fire Extinguishers
Eye Wash Stations
Emergency Lighting Systems
Diesel Generator
Fire Alarm Panel
Assist in maintaining the grounds including landscaping and seasonal upkeep.
Support with special renovation projects as needed.
Identify areas requiring preventative maintenance or repair.
Escort and oversee sub-contractors to ensure compliance with site procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned
WHAT YOU CAN OFFER
The following certifications/designations are considered an asset
Building Environment System certificate or a trade license (BES 1 and/or 2)
2-3 years of painting and drywalling experience
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Familiarity with tools, equipment, and materials used in repair work.
Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Good communication skills to interact with team members and clients professionally.
A valid Full G driver’s license is required as there will be travel between job sites.
