Job Description: The incumbent is responsible for providing technical assistance and support to faculty and students in the School of Apprenticeship Training, Automotive and Mechanical Trades within the Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence (ACCE), with a focus on mechanical trade programming such as plumbing, refrigeration, air conditioning, gas fitting and sheet metal programs, both post-secondary and apprenticeship. The incumbent manages all aspects of material supply and equipment availability for the Faculty and/or other staff to include maintenance support/scheduling, setting up and tearing down laboratory sessions, providing orientation in usage of equipment, maintenance of equipment, tool and material inventory upkeep as well as fabrication, alteration and expansion of training equipment. Duties and Responsibilities: Maintenance of all lab equipment used for teaching and learning purposes as well as installing, calibrating and checking equipment; Providing support and technical assistance to Faculty and/or other staff/ in their delivery of skills-based learning; The incumbent consults with faculty and other staff as required and plans, orders, receives and organizes materials to ensure all materials necessary for lab assignments are on-hand and that the appropriate inventory levels are maintained; Completion and inspection of forms and paperwork including purchasing documents, such as checklists, material-take offs, request for quotes, requests for information, purchase orders, bills of lading, invoices, shipping confirmation, pick tickets, warranty forms, etc. Assists in tracking expenditures and budgets; Coordinates activities for temporary support staff; Incumbent is responsible for ensuring that all lab policies and procedures related to safety are followed by lab users; Other Duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: Trade Certificate in one of the following: Air Conditioning (313A or 313D), Plumber (306A), Sheet Metal (308A); Gas Technician II Certification; Oil Burner Technician II Certification; Minimum five (5) years’ experience in setting up, operating, calibrating, adjusting, troubleshooting, repairing and installing equipment and tools for the mechanical trades (plumbing, refrigeration, air conditioning, gas fitting, hydronics, or sheet metal); Minimum five (5) years’ experience working in the fields of plumbing, refrigeration, air conditioning, gas fitting, hydronics, or sheet metal; Minimum three (3) years’ experience estimating, quoting, ordering, receiving and organizing materials and consumables in the fields of plumbing, refrigeration, air conditioning, gas fitting, hydronics, or sheet metal; Minimum three (3) years’ experience working with MS Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Sharepoint, OneDrive, etc. Ability to complete physically demanding work; Ability to sit, stand, kneel and work overhead for periods of time; Ability to lift heavy objects; Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding and elevated work platforms as required; Acquisition of Forklift certification within 3 months of hire date; Acquisition of First Aid & CPR qualification within 3 months of hire date; Acquisition of Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) certification within 3 months of hire date; Acquisition of an Ontario Class G Driver’s license within 24 months of hire date.
