Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Maintain and oversee Environmental and Sustainability Management Systems (EMS/SMPs) to ensure compliance with project, client, and regulatory requirements.
Review and interpret architectural, mechanical, and electrical design drawings.
Perform detailed building energy modelling using applicable software (e.g., eQuest, EE4, etc.), including take-off calculations and development of proposed and reference case models in accordance with relevant standards, guidelines, and codes.
Evaluate and recommend energy efficiency and carbon reduction strategies, providing technical input to improve sustainable building design.
Conduct energy audits, from walkthrough to final reporting, and analyze utility and meter data to support Measurement and Verification (M&V) studies, utility analysis, and carbon tracking/reporting.
Prepare and submit required modelling documentation, ensuring completeness and accuracy for project deliverables.
Prepare detailed responses to energy model reviews and audits from modelling authorities (e.g., CaGBC, municipalities, etc.).
Support implementation of LEED, WELL, and other green building rating and certification systems, including managing and preparing documentation, reviewing designs for credit adherence, and advising clients and architects on sustainability strategies.
Guide clients’ sustainability and certification projects by selecting optimal credits and measures that enhance overall building performance.
Complete whole-building Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) to evaluate environmental impacts and support sustainable decision-making.
Provide reports and presentations on sustainability performance, energy modelling outcomes, and certification progress to clients and stakeholders.
Stay current with emerging sustainability standards, legislation, and incentive programs relevant to green building design and energy efficiency.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Degree or Certificate in sustainable energy, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in the sustainable energy industry.
Understanding of sustainability concepts and their practical applications.
An understanding of the LEED program (v2009 and v4) and associated rating systems under the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) and US Green Building Council (USGBC).
Experience with Net Zero buildings and/or CaGBC Zero Carbon Buildings, is an asset.
Experience with HVAC and plumbing design, Energy Modelling, and energy auditing, is an asset
Strong knowledge of Athena Impact Estimator for Buildings, or equivalent LCA software, is an asset.
LEED Accredited Professional is an asset.
Experience in measurement & verification is an asset.
