Your opportunity:
The Institute for Management & Innovation (IMI) is the center for professional management education at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) and has a strong administrative team supporting our professional graduate programs and hubs. Reporting to the Director, Operations & Finance, the Financial Officer will support IMI's financial planning and operations by managing budgets, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with University policies and guidelines. This role collaborates with IMI's academic programs and hubs as a first point of contact for financial support and analysis.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring department budget to ensure expenditures remain within budgeted allocations
- Forecasting and planning financial activities incorporating budgets with multiple sources of revenue and/or recoveries
- Recording detailed transactions for many accounts including payroll
- Advising staff on accounting practices and University financial policies and procedures
- Identifying and analyzing data discrepancies and taking necessary actions to correct errors
- Reconciling payroll distribution
- Generating reports
- Keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in business or accounting, or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum three years, related experience, preferably in a University setting.
- Demonstrated experience processing financial transactions, and preparing financial reconciliations, analyses and providing recommendations.
- Experience compiling and organizing financial data.
- Experience interpreting and applying financial guidelines and procedures.
- Experience liaising and building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
- Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite.
- Proficiency with SAP, including Financial Information System (FIS), Human Resources Information System (HRIS) and Research Information System (RIS), or similar systems.
- Strong organizational skills and an ability to work in a high volume environment that requires multi-tasking onvaried duties and an ability to prioritize effectively and work under pressure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Accuracy and attention to detail are critical.
- Ability to accurately interpret and apply guidelines, procedures and regulations in a variety of situations.
- Ability to professionally communicate complex financial procedures and financial information to non-financial staff and faculty.
- Ability to multi-task and anticipate demands in assignments and day-to-day work and adapt to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated initiative and self-motivation.
- Ability to exercise good judgement and tact in dealing with faculty, staff and students.
