The Transit Driver is responsible for the safe and punctual transportation of passengers using the public Transit service in Port Hope while providing excellent customer service. 
Compensation
35 hours per week; $24.32 - $28.45 per hour

Qualifications
High school diploma
Responsibilities
Transport passengers to destinations using the Conventional service or Specialized service.
Communicate effectively in a variety of situations, including responding to customer queries and interacting with other operators and operations staff.
Operate a variety of Transit fleet vehicles in a safe manner under varying weather conditions.
Ensure the safety of all passengers by obeying and following defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws, Municipal Policies/procedures, Port Hope Transit polices/procedures, and the Highway Traffic Act.
Operate a ramp when necessary to assist passengers. Secure passengers and their wheelchairs to restraining devices to stabilize during trip. Ensure patrons are aware of the available seatbelts and to buckle in for their own safety.
In the event of collision/accident/incident notify the Supervisor, Transit immediately. Complete written reports on collisions or other incidents as soon as possible.
Perform daily circle checks and perform basic maintenance (ie; fluid top up). Refuel vehicles at the end of shift. Ensure vehicles are clean prior to taking on the road each morning.
Fill out a Daily Logbook to ensure drivers hours, keeping the Logbook with the Driver at all times. Operate the Transit fare system to comply with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, record and report the number of passengers that travel with Port Hope Transit.
Wear the designated uniform and name badge when driving the public vehicles.
Provide excellent customer service.
Adhere to high standards of ethical behaviour and demonstrate their understanding that their personal actions impact the public’s perception of the Municipality.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Transit or designate
Skills and Abilities
Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job which are repetitive and constant, including but not limited to: sitting for prolonged periods of time, reaching, gripping, pushing/pulling of steering wheel, twisting and turning of neck, high level of visual/sensory acuity and concentration.
Ability to lift objects up to 20 Kg to assist passengers with large objects including bags, wheelchairs, strollers, etc.
Other
Valid Class C driver’s license with two years of driving experience and a clean driver’s record/abstract.
Valid and satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
Working Conditions
Available to work various shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and split shifts; occasional work after regular work hours.
Driving occasionally in inclement weather.
Long periods of sitting with repetitive hand-wrist motion.
Regularly exposed to fumes, odors, and moderate noise
