Trillium Health Partners is a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto and home to the Institute for Better Health, the hospital’s research, and innovation engine. It is also the regional specialist for over 14 programs such as cardiac, cancer, stroke, neurology, mental health and so much more. Our doctors and nurses partner with your local hospital to offer highly complex care.

The Role
THE POSITION – OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Director, Community Engagement, the Manager, Community Engagement plays a key role in helping achieve the goals of a progressive, integrated special events program. In this role, the Manager is responsible for planning and executing three key events: The Trillium Diwali Gala, The Hazel McCallion Walk for Health, and the new Grand Tasting Gala. The Manager will have revenue responsibility and accountability for overall financial targets, and will provide leadership for the development of strategies required for optimum ROI results. The manager will explore, business case and implement innovative new event opportunities against key market segments. This Manager will manage two direct reports – the Development Officer, Community Engagement, and the Coordinator, Community Engagement, as well as relationships with senior leader volunteers, sponsors, donors, vendors, and event consultants, as appropriate.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Event Planning & Execution
Oversee the execution of The Trillium Diwali Gala, the pledge-based community event, The Hazel McCallion Walk for Health, and the new fundraising gala set for 2027, the Grand Tasting Gala
Develop and oversee critical paths and execute event timelines.
Prepare event briefing notes prior to events for key individuals such as board members, senior leadership, stakeholders, and VIP guests.
Conduct an evaluation of events and make recommendations for improvement.
Assist with all Foundation events in various roles as required.
Sponsorship & Fundraising
Actively identify, solicit, and engage corporate giving through sponsorship and participation.
Build and manage sponsorship pipelines, including prospect clearance with Philanthropy, with the effort to transfer prospects from events to the leadership gifts portfolio.
Sponsorship recognition and stewardship through the development of sponsorship fulfillment reports in conjunction with the donor experience team.
Create new and innovative approaches to fundraising to maximize revenue at events (on-site fundraising opportunities, mission engagement, unique sponsorship levels).
Volunteer & Stakeholder Engagement
Manage, lead, and engage with senior volunteer committees to encourage community outreach and maximize fundraising opportunities.
Deliver prompt, personal, and meaningful gift acknowledgment correspondence to participants, donors, and sponsors.
Marketing & Communications
Develop marketing and communications strategy and collateral in conjunction with the MarComm Team (creative, website, media, e-communications, day-of requirements, social media), and oversee implementation.
Budget & Financial Management
Establish and monitor annual event budgets and activity goals to ensure appropriate cost per dollar ratio.
Reconciliation of budget and financing, ensuring timely invoicing and follow-ups on outstanding accounts.
Leadership & Team Management
Meet regularly with Community Engagement team to review progress against business plan and provide input and problem-solving solutions that contribute to achieving goals and objectives.
Monitor event trends to ensure that the two Galas and Walk benefit from current knowledge, resources, and techniques.
Support an environment that ensures effective sharing of information and collaboration with other Foundation programs.
Oversee and lead a small team, providing guidance, direction, and support to ensure the successful execution of events and the achievement of fundraising goals.
Foster a positive team culture, encouraging collaboration, growth, and development among team members.
Provide regular feedback, mentorship, and performance assessments to team members, ensuring high levels of engagement and accountability.
Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth communication and efficient task delegation.
QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES
5+ year’s event fundraising experience within the charitable sector, preferably in health care
College or University degree/diploma
Experience with execution of $500K+ events, with preference in galas and large-scale pledge based community events
Proven track record of fundraising experience and demonstrated knowledge of special events, sponsorship, community fundraising, volunteer engagement, and donor engagement
Proven skills delivering high profile events that are large and complex, and that require collaboration with multiple stakeholders while keeping costs below industry standard expense ratios
Proven experience and success with proposal writing and presentation skills
Ability to develop event concepts and integrate strategies into operational and fund development strategies
Experience in growing existing events leading to increased revenue and participation, as well as creating new and innovative events
Command of current fundraising and event management options and trends
Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a cross-functional team to successful fundraising achievement
Track record of developing excellent relationships with volunteer committees and high profile volunteer leaders
Experience managing vendors and outside consultants, agencies, writers, and other suppliers
Solid negotiation skills and the ability to secure products pro bono or for reduced prices
Exceptional interpersonal skills, including strong verbal and written communication skills and the capacity to communicate at all levels with confidence and influence
Excellent ability to solve complex problems, adapt event plans, and manage many competing demands simultaneously
Strong attention to detail skills, and organizational and time management skills to determine work priorities and manage multiple projects in a fast paced and resource-lean environment
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Superior analytical skills and business planning/budgeting acumen
Fluency and a high-level of proficiency in the Raiser’s Edge and MS Office Suite Software. CRM fundraising and online peer-to-peer software a strong asset
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Flexibility to work remotely with the requirement to work a minimum of one day in office per week
Willingness to work flexible hours. Some after-hours work will be required.
Work will take place across the multiple sites of Trillium Health Partners and Trillium Health Partners Foundation.
Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle required.
