Here's the Scoop – Summary The Maintenance Supervisor and Chief Power Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all utility systems at the Acheson facility. This includes steam boilers, air compressors, pressure vessels, wastewater treatment systems, domestic and process water infrastructure, fire protection systems, and general building and grounds maintenance. A key focus of this role is the continuous and sustainable operation of all utility services that support production equipment and processes, in alignment with the company’s strategic roadmap. In addition to overseeing utilities, the incumbent serves as the designated Chief Power Engineer under Alberta provincial regulations, providing supervision, leadership, and technical guidance to the power engineering team. This position also includes responsibility for conducting equipment inspections and implementing preventative maintenance procedures at an additional warehouse in West Edmonton. What a typical day looks like: Ensure compliance to Company’s policies, practices and procedures related to Health and Safety, Food Safety, and the Environment. Hold responsibility for the safe and reliable operation of the steam boilers, air compressors, pressure vessels, wastewater facilities, domestic and process water, fire protection system, building and grounds and the general utilities. Develop service agreement with OEM and other contractors to maintain critical utility equipment with industry standard preventive maintenance program. Perform department PMs, including but not limited to, cleaning, lubricating and completing other routine maintenance work • Implement, track and verify work orders assigned to power engineers for timely completion and quality of work. Provide guidance in troubleshooting of equipment and processes with the use of CMMS data. Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation Revised: October 2025 • Comply with all safety training and departmental SOPs, and with all regulations relating to equipment and chemical approvals for a food manufacturing facility Develop and maintain good communication practices with Production staff to advise of lead times required to obtain maintenance parts and/or services, and with Maintenance co-workers to promote and support a positive and safe work environment Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service Participate in departmental housekeeping practices, i.e. keeping the maintenance shop and surrounding area clean, as well as metal rack, outside scrap bins, and the welding station, and participate in dismantling and assembling equipment and machines for deep cleaning purposes Develop and demonstrate awareness and understanding of corporate policies, practices and procedures regarding health and safety and the environment and commit to personal compliance with same Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant industry technologies and codes Lead improvement projects to improve equipment reliability and processes effectiveness. Lead and implement company sustainability projects geared towards carbon footprint reduction of the facility. Leadership and Behaviors: Assists maintenance associates in completing assigned tasks safely and efficiently Identifies and reports unsafe acts and conditions observed on the shop floor Actively contributes to continuous improvement initiatives and projects Proactively seeks opportunities to enhance line efficiency and minimize waste Maintains records of maintenance associates’ achievements and areas for improvement Provides regular feedback to improve overall shift performance Attends CP3 meetings when scheduling permits Serves as a positive role model for fellow associates Demonstrates consistent punctuality and reliability What are we looking for? 4th Class Power Engineer designation Must possess a minimum of five years of supervisory experience in manufacturing or industrial set up. Ability to communicate effectively among peers and superiors. Excellent time management, planning, and prioritization skills. Continuous Improvement mindset. Ability to successful complete a pre-employment Drug & Alcohol and Fit-to-Work test up to 75 lbs Ability to clear a Criminal Record Check Working Conditions Working inside a clean, modern, state-of-the-art pet food manufacturing facility, with brand new equipment.
