Job Summary:
Reporting to the Manager, Infrastructure and Asset Management (IAM), the Building Operator performs routine preventative and demand maintenance and repairs for Catholic Social Services (CSS) facilities. Working mostly independently or as part of the larger team, the Building Operator is responsible for a variety of maintenance tasks and repair work on architectural finishes, plumbing, heating and simple electrical works. With over 120 separate assets to manage, the team includes service coordinators to help define and priorities work orders, a procurement team to look after material and vendor needs and a fleet of service vehicles to get from one job to the next. You are a responsible individual, safety minded and able to think outside of the box. Your skills may include drywall work, painting, basic plumbing and electrical work. You are a problem solver and and able to organize your schedule to best suit the needs of the day. Additionally: Duties may include:
Efficiently and safely performs maintenance tasks in areas of carpentry, plumbing, heating, cooling, etc. as assigned
Inspects and helps to troubleshoots equipment and systems (i.e. ventilation, boilers, etc.)
Coordinates processes from start to finish, including site visits, assessing the work to be done, determining materials needed, ordering the necessary material, picking up or arranging for delivery of materials, completing the job, and cleanup of work site and / or coordinating the need for outside vendors for those larger more complex jobs,
Uses a computerized maintenance management system to track work orders, materials and time.
Completes periodic / annual asset inspection reports, information reports and job completion reports in a timely manner
Recommends repairs and adjustments to manager as required; provides support on changes, trends, innovations in the field of trades in general, how they may be implemented in the Agency’s maintenance function
Operates Agency vehicles in a safe and courteous manner as per Agency policies and procedures, ensuring regular service and repairs as needed
Follows health and safety protocols while adhering to Agency policies and procedures
Performs other related duties as required
What this job requires:
Minimum of a Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent is required
Must have 3+ years maintenance work experience
4th or 5th class Power Engineering certificate is an asset.
Diploma or related trade certificate from a recognized educational institution is considered an asset
Additional relevant certifications or designations considered an asset
Basic knowledge, skill, and work experience in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, simple cement work, and residential or office repairs is preferred
Prior experience with routine maintenance operations in all plumbing areas such as sinks, showers, and tubs is preferred
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
Police Information Check including vulnerable sector search current within six (6) months
A Valid class 5 Driver’s License
Driver's Abstract with less than six (6) demerit points current within one (1) year
