Job Title: Senior Training & Communications Specialist
Reports to: Senior Manager, New Services and Change Management
Purpose of the Role
The Senior Training & Communications Specialist plays a pivotal role in supporting operational excellence by developing and delivering training programs and internal communications that ensure compliance, drive quality, and enable continuous improvement.
This role partners with Operations teams, QRA, HR, and leadership teams to foster employee readiness and engagement. The ideal candidate brings understanding of multiple training delivery modalities, adult learning best practices, and clear, actionable communication strategies.
Your responsibilities will include:
Program leadership
Design, implement, and maintain training programs and plans that support technical, regulatory, and operational excellence across operations and support teams.
Collaborate with subject matter experts and QRA to translate technical SOPs, workflows, and quality standards into clear training content.
Build training plans and materials for a variety of audiences, using a variety of modalities.
Deliver onboarding, training, refresher training, and competency assessments where applicable for a variety of operations teams and initiatives
Manage the training documentation process, ensuring compliance with audit and accreditation standards where applicable.
Support a culture of continuous learning through interactive workshops, simulations, eLearning, and performance-based assessments.
Curriculum Oversight: Design, lead, and evaluate training programs that support change goals.
Alignment with Business Goals: Ensure learning outcomes are aligned with desired behavioral and performance shifts.
Capability Building: Partner with business leaders to identify skills gaps and address them proactively.
Internal Communications and planning
Develop and execute communication plans to support specific projects, change initiatives, and day-to-day operations.
Create content such as announcements, job aids, newsletters, and video messages to ensure staff are informed, engaged, and aligned.
Ensure communication is tailored to a range of audiences including frontline employees, support staff, supervisors, and leadership, SLT & ELT.
Develop Communication Strategies: Create clear, concise, and consistent messaging aligned to the overall change strategy.
Cascade Key Messages: Work with leadership to ensure messages are effectively cascaded throughout all levels of the organization.
Feedback Loops: Establish mechanisms for two-way communication to capture concerns, input, and adoption gaps.
Stakeholder Engagement & Influence
Support a team of change managers to incubate and implement new services
Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate across HR, operations, IT, and other departments to ensure cohesive execution.
Influence without Authority: Lead by influence to mobilize subject matter experts and local champions.
Executive Alignment: Ensure key leaders understand and reinforce the change narrative.
Change Enablement Leadership
Drive Change Readiness: Champion change initiatives by ensuring impacted teams are prepared through timely, tailored training and communication.
Model Change Agility: Act as a role model for adaptability and resilience during transformation.
Mitigate Resistance: Proactively identify sources of resistance and work with leaders and stakeholders to address concerns through messaging and engagement.
Act as a liaison between corporate communications, project leads, QRA, and operational leaders to ensure successful adoption of organizational change.
Lead/Facilitate change impact assessments and create applicable change plans.
Identify Change Impacts: Analyze how different stakeholder groups are affected and tailor support accordingly.
Manage Risks to Adoption: Flag risks to adoption early and build mitigation plans into the communication and training roadmap.
Measurement & Continuous Improvement
Define Success Metrics: Establish KPIs to measure effectiveness of communication and training efforts (e.g., adoption rates, engagement scores, training completion).
Track and Report Progress: Regularly report results to leadership and recommend enhancements.
Iterate Based on Feedback: Use insights from feedback and outcomes to refine strategies.
What you bring to the role:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Curriculum Development, Human Resources and/or post-secondary Certificate in a related discipline (i.e., Instructional Design, Adult Education, eLearning Development
Certificate or Degree in Training or Adult Education an asset
5-7 years of experience in training development, instructional design, or communications
Project, business analytics and change management skills
Proficiency in instructional design tools (e.g., Articulate, Camtasia), learning management systems (LMS), and Microsoft Office.
Excellent writing, presentation, and facilitation skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, compliance-driven environment
