Ring is looking for a Software Development Engineer to join and help grow the
Ring VSG (Virtual Security Guard) team. Ring's mission is to make neighbourhoods
safer. VSG takes this to the next level by offering customers proactive
protection, real-time prevention, and notification.
Ring VSG team is looking for a Software Development Engineer (SDE) who will be
curious, creative, goal-oriented, and excited to support their own team members
as well as a strong sense of customer obsession for our wide variety of
customers. You take ownership of your work and are passionate about software
quality, consistency, maintainability, performance, and security.
SDEs at Ring contribute to all the steps of the software development lifecycle.
They gather, discuss and suggest requirements and features, they design and
implement software, automate testing and operate the services their team owns.

Key job responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain mission-critical services powering Video
Monitoring's event processing and agent investigation workflows with
sub-two-second response times
Lead cross-team technical designs and architecture decisions for the Video
Monitoring platform, focusing on AI initiatives including AI Guard threat
detection and automated warnings
Mentor SDEs and serve as technical lead, providing guidance while raising
organizational awareness and team productivity through GenAI technologies
Collaborate with Product Management, GTM stakeholders, and cross-functional
teams to translate ambiguous customer requirements into concrete technical
solutions
Own long-term technical direction for VM platform evolution from human-centered
monitoring to AI-agent based automated detection while maintaining human
oversight
Maintain eight production services ensuring audit trail compliance, distributed
service communication, and EventStream business intelligence integration
Drive strategic initiatives and set project timelines for critical VM
capabilities, unblocking teams and external partners
Identify and address systemic technical issues limiting scalability and
time-to-market through GenAI adoption and evangelization
Contribute to continuous improvement of development practices across VM and Ring
Core service teams

You'll start by reviewing overnight alerts and system metrics, then architect
AI-powered security features that protect millions of homes. Your morning
includes cross-functional design reviews and mentoring talented engineers on
innovative AI video monitoring solutions. Afternoons bring exciting
collaboration with Product teams to transform customer needs into breakthrough
technology, debugging mission-critical services, and contributing to impactful
code reviews. You'll wrap up by setting technical direction, unblocking key
initiatives, and prototyping next-generation AI automation that pushes the
boundaries of real-time threat detection while maintaining the reliability and
security standards that make neighborhoods safer.
About the team
The Home and Neighborhood Monitoring team powers Ring's premium Virtual Security
Guard service, delivering AI-powered threat detection with human oversight to
millions of homes. We build mission-critical services across two specialized
sub-teams: Agent Tool Experience (ATX) and Neighbor Experience (NEXT). Our
collaborative environment emphasizes mentorship and knowledge sharing as we
maintain 14+ microservices with tier-1 reliability. We focus on pioneering the
evolution from human-centered monitoring to AI-agent based detection while
pushing the boundaries of real-time neighborhood safety through continuous
innovation. Basic Qualifications: - 5+ years of non-internship professional
software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language
experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and
scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team Preferred
Qualifications: - 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including
coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes,
testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
