ABOUT US
Westhills EVS is located 10 minutes west of Stony Plain, Alberta and 30 minutes west of Edmonton and is easily accessed off of TransCanada Highway 16 on Range Road 25. You must have reliable transportation as we are not on a bus route.

THE JOB
Mare Handlers are an integral and essential part of the Reproduction Team. They are responsible for the timely and accurate catching and handling of mares into and out of the repro barn for their appointments. This position is especially valuable to students who are keen to learn more about equine reproductive medicine.
Season: Beginning of April to mid/late August.
Work Schedule: 4 days on + 4 days off, 7 am to 6 pm or 8am to 7pm
Duties include:
Mare Handling:
- Catching and handling recipient mares as needed or directed.
- Catching and handling client mares as needed or directed.
- Handling foals for neonatal exams and treatments.
Patient Care
- Assistance with admitting mares and foals at side to the reproduction department.
- Medication administration (if skills allow for this)
- Preparing mares for diagnostics, treatments and procedures.
- Medication preparation as required.
Cleaning
- Clean and restock recipient mare barn.
- Daily cleaning duties in repro clinic.
Other
- Attend daily reproduction meetings.
- Attend monthly staff meetings.
- Assist and train new mare handlers as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
