Job Description: Under direction of the Senior Public Health Inspector and in consultation with Departmental Supervisors, the Manager and/or Medical Health Officer, the Public Health Inspector delivers a variety of environmental health/public health programs through consultation, education, inspection and enforcement of legislation within an assigned geographical area. Established programs deal with health hazards in buildings, water and sewage disposal systems, food premises, air quality, unintentional injury prevention, tobacco control and communicable disease control programs. The incumbent may be required to enforce The Plumbing Regulations, The Private Sewage Works Regulations, and must be able to perform onsite inspections in new and existing buildings. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the incumbent utilizes health promotion strategies, techniques and skills to address a variety of determinants of health.
