Description:
Pro Bono Students Canada (PBSC) is a national organization which is hosted by and has its head office at the Jackman Faculty of Law, with Chapters at 22 Canadian law schools. PBSC’s mission includes providing free legal support to people and communities facing barriers to justice and providing law students with an opportunity to develop their legal skills.
The Family Justice Centre (FJC) is an initiative of the PBSC’s National Office that provides a more accessible pathway to justice for low-income self-represented family law litigants in Ontario by providing unbundled legal services in the form of summary advice and, when appropriate, assistance with court document drafting. Primarily, services are delivered virtually through a suite of technologies managed by the PBSC National Office as well as in person at specific courthouses. PBSC National hires law students who partner with volunteer lawyers to provide legal services to qualifying members of the broader community.
Under the direction of PBSC’s National Director, the Supervising Lawyer, (FJC) holds diverse responsibilities within the FJC including, but not limited to, overseeing the intake process, overseeing the development of public legal education resources, answering students’ legal questions, developing policies for the program, providing training on substantive and procedural law to the students, managing the program’s partnerships and leading continued program development.
The incumbent is required to be a licensed lawyer who has the expertise in family law and maintains professional liability insurance coverage.
As a senior member of PBSC, the incumbent will also provide support to the National Director in the areas of stakeholder relations, strategic planning, fundraising, budgeting, along with other leadership functions.
