As Finance Assistant, you will work closely with researchers and research administrative staff to support faculty members in the financial administration of their research funding. You will play a key role in the accurate and timely administration of financial processes while providing exceptional service with every interaction. You will also be responsible for regular reporting on funding accounts, including detailed reports on quarterly expenditures, process accounts receivable, accounts payable, expense reimbursements and prepare journal entries. Your strong attention to detail and financial acumen coupled with your high caliber organizational and multi-tasking skills with be essential to your success in the role.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring, recording, reconciling and/or reporting on reporting on funding accounts for grants and contracts
- Ensuring accurate financial processing, including verifying completeness of documents, and obtaining approvals
- Record and process detailed transactions, including processing accounts payables/receivables, expense reimbursements and preparing journal entries
- Generating reports, including standard financial reports and preparing budget variance reports along with maintaining databases and filing systems
- Identifying and resolving individual financial discrepancies
- Analyzing and recommending improvements to financial processes and procedures
Essential Qualifications:
- Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum of three (3) years of recent and related financial experience, preferably in an university environment
- Strong understanding and application of financial policies and procedures
- Demonstrated experience processing financial transactions (A/R, A/P and expense reimbursements) and preparing financial reconciliations
- Experience monitoring and reconciling research accounts
- Experience managing databases, including compiling, sorting and organizing financial data
- Experience troubleshooting and resolving financial discrepancies
- High level proficiency with MS Office Suite and with SAP systems, including Financial Information Systems (FIS) and Research Information Systems (RIS) or similar systems
- Strong numerical, accounting, financial and analytical skills
- Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
- Accuracy and attention to detail are crucial
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, problem solve, prioritize and manage competing priorities
- Ability to exercise good judgment and tact when dealing with faculty members and staff
