Work involves: (a) planning and performing studies/medium-level projects assisted by technical support staff, or engineering work as part of a project; or (b) planning and performing applied research, development, or innovative design work in engineering specialty and carrying out experiments and tests. The Voice Communication System (VCS) Cyber Engineer is accountable for applying specialized knowledge and expertise in preparing plans for the development of capital projects; completing system designs and specifications to meet specific operational requirements; support procurement and implementation activities; assist with life cycle management of the voice communications systems and equipment. The VCS Cyber Engineer will support the implementation of cyber security best practices, including the implementation of security controls in system development as per ISO 27001 and IEC 62443. As expertise and knowledge increase, the Engineering Specialist will be expected to be responsible for more complex assignments and be more active in providing engineering advice to other NAV CANADA groups. The engineer will collaborate closely with the NAV CANADA Enterprise Cyber Security team. Education: Graduation with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in electrical, electronics, communications or computer engineering Experience: 3-5 years experience as an engineer including practical and project related work Experience in the planning, design and/or implementation of IT communication technologies and complex systems projects Experience in the development of specifications, standards and procedures Experience in the planning, design and/or implementation of hardware / software projects Experience with secure design/development and cyber security controls frameworks Knowledge: Knowledge and understanding of engineering principles, practices and technology in the field of voice communications, data communications and computer systems A working knowledge of project management principles and techniques, system engineering process and practices, business practices and decision making techniques Knowledge in IP networking and VoIP communication Knowledge with software pipelines automation (Ansible, Gitlab, Jenkins) Knowledge in IT system administration principles Knowledge in Cyber Security Subjects (threat assessments, Cyber Framework like ISO 27001 and IEC 62443) Abilities: Ability to work in a team environment Ability to organize and conduct studies Ability in written and oral communications relating to specifications and technical documents for Technical Managers, Senior Engineers and technologists Ability to plan and organize tasks and projects using industry best practices Consistent and meticulous Personal Suitability: Work independently with a minimum of direction and supervision and as a team member Effective interpersonal communications; initiative, innovation, judgment, reliability, discretion, decisiveness, persuasiveness, punctuality, diplomacy and tact Able to work in a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment Able to identify and help resolve conflicts within the team Flexible work arrangements: This is a hybrid position with a minimum of 3 days per week on site required NAV CANADA is committed to building a skilled, diverse workforce reflective of Canadian society.
