Data Analyst
Position Summary
The Data Analyst will support the collection, cleaning, transformation, and integration of data from Edmonton’s Homelessness Management Information System (HMIS), along with various internal and external sources, to produce reliable and cohesive datasets for analysis, reporting, and insight generation.
Reporting to the Manager of Data and Analytics, and working closely with the Data and Analytics team, senior leadership, and sector partners, the successful candidate will contribute to the development of tools, models, and workflows that enable data-driven decision-making. Key responsibilities include applying data science and analytical techniques to produce datasets used in daily reporting and insights, as well as maintaining clear documentation of data processes in alignment with Homeward Trust’s standards and mission.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain, develop and update code to automate and Homeward Trust’s data sets, working collaboratively with the data team to support data collection, storage, transformation, and utilization. This entails developing and maintaining a robust processes to clean raw data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency, including handling missing values, outliers, and inconsistencies.
Work with senior team members of the data team to design and update processes to integrate additional data from the Homelessness Management Information System (HMIS) as well other sources into Homeward Trust Data sets to maintain an accurate and unified dataset for analysis and reporting.
Prepare and validate datasets for government reporting and evaluation purposes, ensuring alignment with required data standards, accuracy, completeness, and timely submission.
Document and maintain data business processes and logic, ensuring workflows, data definitions, and transformation rules are current and accessible for team use.
Lead ongoing data quality reviews in collaboration with the broader data team, identifying and resolving data integrity issues.
Provide analytical and technical support for special projects, such as the Point-in-Time (PiT) Count and hoc evaluation initiatives, as required.
Promote data literacy through training, coaching, and community engagement. Support continuous improvement initiatives, pilot innovative solutions, and refine analytics tools based on sector and community needs.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Degree or diploma in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems or related field.
2+ years experience in a data analysis, business intelligence, or analytics role (experience in public health or social impact sectors is an asset).
Experience with programming languages (ex: Java/python, SAS) and proficiency in SQL, and CRM or Homelessness Management Information Systems (HMIS).
Deep knowledge of data warehousing, data modeling, and ETL processes.
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex information clearly to non-technical audiences.
Passion for using data to support systems change and community well-being, especially in the context of housing and homelessness.
Working Conditions
Must pass criminal record check including vulnerable sector clearance.
This is a full-time, on-site position that requires an in-person presence in our Edmonton, Alberta office.
