Camp YMCA Kanawana is Quebec’s oldest residential summer camp. We are looking to marry our tradition of YMCA value-based camping with leading edge programming while being Quebec’s environmental education leader.
Staff live on site for the duration of the summer, which starts in mid-June and finishes at the end of August. Salaries include food, lodging and transportation to and from camp.
The Coordinator are responsible for planning, organizing, and executing the Leadership Program at Camp YMCA Kanawana. The Leader-in-Training (LIT) Program is designed to develop the leadership and communication skills of the participants, all the while teaching them how to care for children. The Coordinators are responsible for organizing workshops, informative sessions, and planning the cabin/tent group placements of the participants. Coordinators are also responsible for providing the participants with consistent feedback and two formal written evaluations throughout the summer.
RESPONSABILITIES
Ensuring the safety, security, health, and well-being of LIT participants at all times;
Ensuring policies regarding program delivery, care of campers, and staff conduct are respected at all times;
Ensuring the proper execution of the program while respecting the LIT instructing guidelines and the proper documentation (planning, leading, evaluating);
Participation in both pre-camp trainings and the open house;
Supervision of the LIT Directors. This includes providing directors with two performance evaluations throughout the summer;
Communicating with parents of LIT participants before and during the program;
Assessing and evaluating camper related issues and discipline;
Oversee the planning and execution of the LIT Program;
Attending daily meetings with the management team;
Conducting meetings for program planning and problem solving on a daily basis;
Teaching workshops and recruiting internal and external resources to provide workshops for LIT participants;
Coordinating all necessary trainings for the LIT Directors;
Communicating appropriate information with the ACQ;
Compiling all documentation of LIT participants (evaluations, recommendations) and ensuring all participant files are up-to-date;
Compiling all documentation (schedule, lesson plans, task lists, yearly plan, and program recommendations) and putting together an LIT program manual;
QUALIFICATIONS
In possession of a valid First Aid/CPR certificate (or WAFA, WFR, EMR)
Subject to a police record check, the cost of which is covered by Camp YMCA Kanawana
Passionate about working with children and the environment
Experience teaching and working with adolescents
Experience in staff management
Fluency in spoken and written French (required).
Fluency in spoken and written English (required based on operational needs related to clientele and communications).

Below is a brief summary of each role’s primary responsibilities.
PROGRAM COORDINATOR
Directly supervises the Waterfront and Land Coordinators.
Recruits, trains, and manages Kanawana’s volunteer program.
Coordinates camp logistics, creates and adjusts schedules, and organizes camp-wide activities.
Plans and oversees major camp-wide events (e.g.Kanawoodstock, theme days, Coffee House, Cocoa House, etc.).
Communicates campernumbers and dietary restrictions to the kitchen.
Assists with purchasing and budget tracking during the season.
Manages all program equipment on-site, ensuring organization and inventory.
LIT SECTION COORDINATOR
Supervises LIT Coordinators, providing directors with two performance evaluations
throughout the summer.
Communicates with LIT participants’ parents before and during the program.
Assesses and manages camper-related or disciplinary issues.
Oversees the planning and execution of the LIT Program.
Coordinates all necessary training for LITCoordinators.
Ensures proper communication with the ACQ (Association des camps du Québec).
Compiles all LIT participant documentation (evaluations, recommendations) and
ensures files are up to date.
Collects all program documentation (schedules, lesson plans, task lists, annual plan, recommendations) to build a complete LIT Program Manual.
