We are currently looking for a Coordinator – Level 1 to join YMCA Camp Kanawana.
The selected candidate will bring their leadership, vision, and energy to a camp with over 125 years of tradition and a thriving, caring community.
RESPONSABILITIES
Under the supervision of the Camp Director and Assistant Director:
Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate staff teams for the camp’s various seasonal activities.
Support camp operations when the Camp Director and/or Assistant Director are unavailable.
Ensure the physical and emotional safety and well-being of campers, staff, and rental groups.
Enforce policies related to program delivery, youth care, and staff conduct.
Coordinate camp logistics, create and adjust schedules, and organize camp-wide activities.
Collaborate closely with the Camp Kanawana and YMCA Camps management teams and represent the YMCA with current and potential clients and partners.
Contribute to decision-making processes regarding the addition, expansion, or modification of programs.
Manage complex logistical situations on and off-site (emergencies, trip evacuations, etc.).
Assist with purchasing and in-season budget tracking.
Support the management team and proactively prevent or resolve issues as they arise.
Adhere to YMCA Youth Protection Policies and embody the values and mission of the organization
REQUIREMENTS
At least 3 years of experience in a camp environment or related field involving youth
supervision, staff management, and logistics.
Fluency in spoken and written French (required).
Fluency in spoken and written English (required based on operational needs related to clientele and communications).
Strong working knowledge of Excel and organizational
tools.
No criminal record related to employment.
Must hold a valid driver’s license.

Below is a brief summary of each role’s primary responsibilities.
SECTION COORDINATOR
Supervise counselling staff working in their designated section offering guidance, leadership, and evaluation through formal and informal coaching.
Ensure policies regarding program delivery, care of campers and staff conduct are respected at all times;
Conduct section meetings for program planning and problem solving;
Compile camper cabin/tent groups based on registration lists provided;
Organize and lead designated camp and section activities;
Conduct appropriate interventions for both camper and staff behavioural concerns with the guidance of the Assistant Director.
LAND PROGRAM COORDINATOR
Supervise all land area program staff offering guidance, leadership, and evaluation through formal and informal coaching.
Oversee delivery of all land programming, including scheduling of land program staff members.
In partnership with the Program Coordinator and Head of Waterfront, managing the chip board and scheduling of groups at different program areas throughout a session.
Organize and lead efficient land programming staff meetings.
Collaborate with the Program Coordinator on planning and executing all camp programming including KanaWoodstock, Coffee/Cocoa House, and All Camp Program days.
HIKE AND TRIP ASSISTANT COORDINATOR
Manage, supervise and support the junior guides
Ensure all food preparation and management follows MAPAQ regulations
Order food and receive deliveries
Respond to emergencies on trip and on camp when necessary
Manage all aspects of the supervision of participants in a safe context in terms of health and wellbeing on overnight trips
Support staff with trip departures and arrivals
Provide training, schedule and check-ins with junior guides
