What is the role?
As a Senior Bridge Engineer at LEA, you will lead the design, evaluation, and rehabilitation of complex transportation structures, including bridges, culverts, retaining walls, high-mast poles, overhead sign supports, and related infrastructure. You will provide technical guidance to project teams, mentor junior engineers, and support project management activities to ensure deliverables meet client requirements, budget, and schedule. This role offers opportunities to work closely with clients such as MTO, TTC, Metrolinx, and municipalities, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams on challenging and impactful infrastructure projects across Ontario.

In this role, your duties and responsibilities will include:
Design & Technical Work
Lead the design of new routine and complex transportation structures (such as bridges, underground transit stations, structural culverts, retaining walls, high mast poles, and overhead sign supports), providing technical direction to the design team.
Oversee the rehabilitation and evaluation of existing routine and complex transportation structures, ensuring best practices and innovative solutions are applied.
Review, approve, and provide technical guidance on the preparation of Structural Design Reports, Structural Evaluation Reports, and other technical documentation.
Lead the preparation and review of contract documents, including special provisions, tender item lists, quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and working day estimates, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Provide technical leadership to project teams, sub-consultants, and stakeholders to resolve complex technical challenges.
Project Management & Quality Control
Provide guidance and mentorship to engineers and designers on project coordination, scheduling, and day-to-day project management.
Take ownership of project specifications, quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and working day estimates, ensuring alignment with client requirements and budget.
Lead projects using project management principles, managing scope, timelines, budgets, and client expectations.
Ensure quality control and assurance standards are rigorously applied throughout the project lifecycle.
Health & Safety
Support and promote a culture of health and safety by ensuring compliance with policies and proactively identifying and mitigating workplace hazards to protect the well-being of team members.
Professional Development
Continuously grow professional skills and knowledge through training sessions, seminars, workshops, and involvement in professional associations to stay updated on the latest trends, software, and technology.
Exposure to other project work within the scope of the Structures Division.
The qualifications you need:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s degree an asset).
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO).
15+ years of experience leading the design, evaluation, and rehabilitation of bridge, transportation, or transit-related structures.
Proven experience managing projects for MTO, TTC, Metrolinx, or municipal clients is a strong asset.
Strong knowledge of CSA S6 (CHBDC), CSA A23, CSA S16, OBC, OPSS, and MTO Structural and Rehabilitation Manuals.
Advanced proficiency with structural analysis and design software such as SAP2000, MIDAS Civil, CSiBridge, MathCAD, AutoCAD, or MicroStation.
Demonstrated success in project management and coordination, delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with experience mentoring junior engineers and leading multidisciplinary teams.
Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license and willingness to conduct site inspections as required.
Commitment to continuous learning and maintaining current technical expertise.
The work arrangement:
LEA operates in a hybrid environment to ensure flexibility, safety, and the well-being of everyone. Periodic attendance at our Markham or Toronto is expected to facilitate in-person learning of new tasks with experienced senior staff.
