Saint John Energy is inviting applications for the role of "Senior Accountant" until 2:00pm on Tuesday, November 18 2025.
The Senior Accountant position provides financial and administrative services including; overseeing and/or assisting with the overall management of the general ledger, accounts payable, miscellaneous accounts receivable and fixed asset sub-ledgers as well as job costing and banking activities of Saint John Energy. This position acts as a lead contact for Finance staff, Management and staff of other departments, regarding budgeting and other financial activities.
Duties
Budget co-ordination and preparation of master budget
Integration of master budget into financial reporting software
Preparation and review of budget/actual financial data including day-to-day administration of the Analytical Accounting features of the financial accounting system
Assist in preparation of recurring forecasts and financial updates
Review of general ledger transactions
Review of Customer Information System adjustments
Lead role in assisting the Manager of Finance with the preparation for and interface with the Commission’s external financial auditors, including the gathering of required documentation, preparation of reconciliation schedules and ad-hoc inquiries
Prepare internal and external financial statements and reports for the review of the Manager of Finance in line with required reporting timelines
Analyze and document financial outcomes
Review and identify areas of financial risk related to the Commission’s business activities to assist in the ongoing development and review of internal financial controls
Develop and implement tests to verify adherence to Commission policy and best practices as they relate to financial activities
Preparation and analysis of monthly power purchase and sale analysis
Assist Finance Department staff with accounting direction where required
Assist non-Finance staff in the correct application of financial practices and policies
Provide backup for other roles within the Finance department
Consultation with various departments and outside parties for the completion of the critical tasks outlined
Completion of various government reporting requirements
Provide support to the Manager of Finance, as directed
Employment Requirements:
Post-secondary education
Professional accounting designation
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to interact with peers and Management
High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of tools
Ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision
High level of integrity, confidentiality and accountability
Sound analytical thinking skills
Strong problem identification and solving skills
Ability to adapt to changing work methods and systems
