We are seeking a highly qualified and detail-oriented Electrical Designer/Technologist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems and components for a variety of projects. This role requires close collaboration with engineers, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure that all electrical designs comply with applicable specifications, codes, and standards. The candidate’s technical proficiency, analytical capabilities, and commitment to quality will be essential to the successful and timely completion of projects within established budgets.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and develop electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, control systems, and wiring layouts for a wide range of projects.
Prepare and review technical drawings including, but not limited to, wiring diagrams, location plans, junction box details, network diagrams, loop wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and installation details.
Prepare and review bills of materials and equipment specifications / datasheets.
Collaborate with project teams, engineers, sub-contractors, and vendors to understand project requirements, constraints, and objectives.
Prepare and review technical drawings, schematics, and specifications using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.
Conduct site visits to assess existing electrical systems and gather relevant data for design purposes.
Perform load calculations and analysis to determine electrical system requirements and ensure compliance with local codes and regulations.
Select appropriate electrical equipment, components, and materials based on project specifications, cost considerations, and collaboration with vendors.
Create and review electrical system documentation, such as bills of materials, technical reports, and installation instructions.
Coordinate with sub-contractors and vendors to obtain necessary materials and ensure smooth project execution.
Troubleshoot electrical system issues and provide technical support during installation, testing, and commissioning phases.
Stay updated with industry trends, advancements, and emerging technologies related to electrical design and implementation.
Adhere to safety protocols and promote a culture of safety within the organization.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Bachelor's degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
Five to Ten years of working as an Electrical Designer/Technologist or in a similar role.
Strong knowledge of electrical design principles, codes, and standards (e.g., NEC, IEC, CEC, IEEE).
Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software for electrical design, such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
Proficiency in 3D modelling software for electrical and instrumentation design, such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
Solid understanding of electrical equipment, components, and materials used in building systems.
Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, sub-contractors, and vendors.
Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with sustainable design practices and energy efficiency concepts.
Knowledge of instrumentation and controls will be an asset.
Professional certifications (e.g., Certified Engineering Technologist) are desirable but not mandatory.
