Your opportunity:
This position is in the lab of Professor Amy Kirkham in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education and the ‘Cardiometabolic, Oncology, Diet and Exercise in Women’ (CODE-W) research centre (in development). The lab and research centre (co-led by Dr. Jenna Gillen) characterize the intersection of cancer, cardiovascular, and metabolic disease in women and develop lifestyle interventions (exercise, diet, rehabilitation, etc) to prevent or ameliorate these conditions. The lab and research centre take a comprehensive and holistic assessment approach, encompassing the collection and analysis of biological samples, real-time biosensors (e.g., continuous glucose monitors, physical activity trackers), cardiopulmonary exercise testing, state-of-the-art magnetic resonance and ultrasound imaging (primarily cardiac and vascular), and patient-reported and clinical outcomes.
The Research Coordinator's primary purpose is to be responsible for the coordination of a 2-site clinical trial called TEST (Time-restricted Eating in Survivors Trial). TEST will enroll 150 older breast cancer survivors in Toronto and Edmonton who will be randomly assigned to follow time-restricted eating with counselling to increase protein intake or to receive standard healthy eating education delivered via one-on-one study calls. The primary outcome in the trial is Framingham cardiovascular risk with secondary outcomes of physical and cognitive function. Assessments conducted include the collection of blood, ultrasound of brain and peripheral blood vessels, MRI of the brain, liver, viscera, and skeletal muscles, objective cognitive function and physical function tests. The secondary purpose of the position is for the maintenance of research-related activities in the lab, including coordination of lab activities, other ongoing studies, and administration. The incumbent may support other research projects by providing knowledge, skills, and on-the-job training to others. The role will also include delivery of research interventions including nutrition and/or exercise (depending on qualifications) to participants by following standardized protocols and tracking and supporting their compliance to the intervention.
