The Environmental, Health and Safety Leader is responsible for establishing Environmental Health & Safety needs, facilitating training, and implementing training programs and objectives required to safely and efficiently conduct operations within our steel distribution facilities across Canada. This key position will be responsible for Safety Policy implementation and adherence, which includes training of employees in legislated responsibilities, mandated Health and Safety related programs and safe work procedures. This leadership position will act as advisor, coach, and mentor to the local warehouse leadership team in all aspects of Health, Safety and Environmental compliance. This position is located in Burlington, Ontario, and will require routine travel (30%) to any of our 6 facilities in Canada, as well as occasional travel to the USA for training, coordination and alignment of standards across North American locations. Primary Responsibilities: Work with local Operations Managers to ensure warehouse compliance of all local legislative requirements, including: WHMIS, Lockout tagout, Hot-work, Working at heights, Lift truck safety, Overhead crane operation, PPE, Preventative maintenance, First Aid, Emergency Preparedness, and Workplace Health and Safety Committees. Work with local Operations Managers to conduct effective hazard analysis for all warehouses and work centers Ensure Safe Work Procedures are current and complete for all warehouse and work centers. Conduct effective ergonomic analysis of the workplace and work centers Monitor, update and communicate the Marmon/Keystone Canada Health and Safety Policy, Procedures, and Guidelines information Ensure that monthly safety audits are conducted, with assistance from the Health and Safety Committee member(s) from the location, and follow-up to ensure all points are resolved in an appropriate and timely manner Work with Operations Manager and HR to update, maintain and present Environmental Health and Safety orientation for all new employees to ensure complete and effective understanding of potential risks and expected behaviors within the workplace Provide regular and accurate statistical reports on all work-related medical aid, WSIB/WCB incidents and injuries, lost time injuries, health-related absenteeism and disability information Communicate to management as required Monitor and recommend corrective actions Maintain Environmental Health and Safety bulletin boards Working with local worker representative, investigate accidents thoroughly and effectively, and then respond appropriately as required, including communicating to, training and following up with managers/supervisors and employees Initiate, promote, implement and maintain Environmental Health and Safety projects and initiatives Conduct all activities and execute all duties with enthusiasm and a positive, results-focused attitude Support company initiatives and policies enthusiastically Other related duties as assigned This is a challenging position for a person with a very good understanding of our industry/our products, and is very hands-on based. The candidate must have confidence in their leadership, management, coaching and organizational skills. Required Experience and Skills: Diploma or Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field Deep knowledge of safety legislation, environmental legislation, and training. Three years of experience as a Health and Safety professional in steel distribution or fabrication facilities. Preference will be given to individuals holding a Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation.
