Job Overview
Reporting to the Regional Safety Manager, as the Safety Coach you are responsible for implementing an effective health and safety program through coaching, training, and proactive engagement with employees and contractors. You also act as a resource, coach, and support for employees and contractors to ensure best practices for health and safety are implemented and adhered to.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Proactively visiting worksites to review and assess health and safety practices/risks and engaging employees and contractors to implement best practices, build trust, and foster environment of cooperation/collaboration.
- Acting as a resource and support for all stakeholders relating to health and safety practices, including contractors, employees, the safety team, and other Qualico safety professionals.
- Identifying opportunities for improvement and engage all parties in identifying and implementing solutions.
- Identifying contractor safety needs and solutions to respond to these needs.
- Participating as a facilitator in safety conversations, such as toolboxes, new employee orientations, training sessions, proactive or post event learning teams.
- Documenting identified opportunities for improvement to assess and address potential weak points, risks and/or signals in our safety program, personnel, and contractors.
- Coaching employees and contractors on best practices and standards.
- Administering first aid as required and appropriate and provide transportation to clinic if needed. Cooperating with the claims coordinators in identifying and providing our employees with access to medical services.
- Working cooperatively with the other members of the immediate safety team and other safety professionals in other Qualico businesses, in various cross organizations projects (audits, meetings, documentation reviews, site inspections, etc.).
- Leading or assisting in the internal audit process. Participating in the audit of other businesses in the Qualico family.
- Analyzing unplanned events and working with all parties to identify and implement solutions to prevent re-occurrence and improve our program.

Essential Requirements
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
- Standard First Aid Certification.
- Positive attitude when it comes to creating and maintaining a safety culture.
- Valid driver’s licence and access to reliable vehicle.
- Satisfactory verification of criminal record check.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office Programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint and PowerPoint) and learning various safety and data collection apps.
Preferred Qualifications (nice to have)
- Some education in health and safety is preferred.
- Knowledge of the residential construction industry is considered an asset.
- Formal training and a good understanding of event analysis (aka accident investigation) is an asset.
- Theoretical and practical knowledge of Safety II, Safety Differently, Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles would be a bonus.
- Facilitation skills – ability to speak in front of groups and facilitate presentations is a strong asset.

Work Conditions
You primarily work outdoors on job sites during regular business hours. Work is mobile with exposure to potential accidents or occupational hazards as well as dealing with inclement weather, heights, dust and noise. Actions taken and decisions made directly impact the safety and health of others. Overtime may be required during the busy season.
