Benefits Specialist Reporting to: Manager, HR Operations Medcan is looking for a junior/intermediate Benefits Specialist to join its growing downtown Toronto team. This role plays an integral role in supporting in managing benefits administration and must have experience managing in-house and third-party benefits. This role also supports HR Operations in employee requests, helping and guidance to employees and managers on issues related to HR policies, benefit programs, performance management, and employee concerns. The incumbent must have strong customer service orientation, ability to work independently and effective time management skills. The Accountabilities: Benefits Administration: Administer and manage employee benefits programs, including medical/dental insurance, retirement plans, and wellness initiatives. Lead benefits orientation sessions of new hires, provide consultation on available benefits options, and answering employee inquiries. Collaborate with the insurance providers & external benefits consultants and take a lead on the annual re-enrollment process, communicating changes to employees and facilitating benefits enrollment. Maintain accurate employee records in both Workday and Manulife Admin Site, including changes and terminations Assist employees with benefit-related issues, addressing inquiries, resolving problems, and providing guidance on available resources Conduct regular benefit audits to ensure accuracy and compliance Manage all types of leave, (STD & LTD, Unpaid Leaves, and other Statutory Leaves) including Return to Work, ensuring accurate tracking and compliance with legal requirements Handle WSIB Cases, including injury reporting, claim management, and facilitating return-to-work programs Managing Accommodations Requests: understanding the request, consulting HRBP, and People Managers on how best navigate these cases with minimal disruption to the business. HR Operations: Supports daily HR administration functions ensuring compliance with company policies and processes, including the processing of changes for internal transfers, promotions and employee data Responding and consulting with employees and managers on related to policies, benefit programs, performance management, employee relations concerns and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner. Assist in developing and implementing HR policies and processes to enhance operational efficiency. Partnering with HRBP on the development and management of various HR programs and projects Act as HR Rep of the Joint Health and Safety Committee and keep Health and Safety processes current to ensure compliance The Requirements: Post-secondary degree/diploma in Human Resources or a related discipline. At least 2 years of experience as a HR professional (HR Coordinator, HR Generalist, or similar). CHRP designation is an asset. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of an organization and candidates. Effective relationship building, business partnership and client management skills. Results-oriented, with a demonstrated ability to deliver results within aggressive deadlines. Ability to always deal with individuals sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally Ability to build collaborative relationships and trust with people managers and employees.Previous exposure to Workday is an asset.
