Junior Accountant
The Sutherland Group seeks a dynamic, analytically minded individual to join the finance organization. The Junior Accountant will report to the Accounting Manager and will perform full cycle accounting duties for several companies under one central accounting system. This dynamic position combines day to day activities including invoicing, payables management, accounting for fixed assets, bank record reconciliations, business segment monthly reporting, KPI tracking and supporting a range of other activities as needed within our ever-growing group of companies.

As a Junior Accountant you will play an integral accounting role for many of the operating companies which consist of Sutco (Trucking and Logistics), BC Eco (Fibre Processing, Harvesting, Roadbuilding, Aggregates, Marine Services, Drilling and Blasting), and Summit (Heavy Duty Repair).

Responsibilities
Perform full cycle accounting duties using QuickBooks desktop.
Perform A/R duties, including preparing quotes, invoicing and collecting payments.
Perform A/P duties, including validating invoices relative to POs and paying bills.
Reconcile bank and credit card accounts.
Manage accounting for fixed assets including purchases, sales and monthly depreciation.
Coordinate with Asset Management on potential capital repair bills and recording appropriately.
Maintain loan schedules and account for loan balances and interest expense.
Assist with processing payroll using QuickBooks.
Report and file government remittances, including PST, GST, payroll source deductions, WCB.
Reporting on business operational and financial KPI on a weekly and monthly basis.
Preparing monthly business line financial reports.
Assisting with Quarterly and Annual year-end close procedures.
Communicate effectively with customers and vendors.
Assist with ad-hoc accounting and administrative projects as required.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Full cycle accounting abilities with a good understanding of accounting principles.
QuickBooks desktop experience preferred.
Strong quantitative aptitude with advanced MS Excel proficiency.
Accounting diploma would be an asset.
Extremely well organized with a high level of attention to detail.
Strong analytical, problem solving and planning skills.
Quick learner and adaptable to an ever-changing environment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
