We are currently looking for a Controller to join our Finance and Accounting team. The Controller will be responsible for managing accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial records, maintaining compliance, and overseeing multi-entity and multi-currency operations. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will directly supervise two team members and oversee an accounting team of 6–7 people.
Working closely with Finance, IT, and other departments, this role will play a key part in integrating financial data and processes across our ERP (NetSuite) and CRM systems—helping to ensure accuracy, consistency, and efficiency as our organization continues to scale. The Controller will also take a lead role in developing, standardizing, and maintaining financial Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that promote best practices and consistency across our expanding organization.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership
Lead and mentor an accounting team of 6–7 people, including two direct reports.
Foster collaboration, professional development, and accountability within the team.
Encourage a solutions-focused, data-driven approach to finance operations
Champion the creation and documentation of SOPs to build clarity, alignment, and scalability within finance workflows.
Accounting Operations
Manage accounting functions across multiple entities (Canada, US, UK) and currencies.
Oversee accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and general ledger management.
Ensure timely and accurate preparation of consolidated financial statements.
Maintain accuracy in intercompany transactions and foreign exchange calculations.
Document and continuously improve core accounting procedures, ensuring processes are well-defined and accessible to the team.
CRM and Financial Data Management
Work collaboratively across Finance, Sales, and Marketing to integrate and reconcile data between the CRM and ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar).
Leverage CRM data to support revenue recognition, pipeline forecasting, and customer billing accuracy.
Identify opportunities to improve the flow of financial and customer data between systems, enhancing reporting and decision-making.
Support the development of dashboards and performance reports that combine financial and CRM insights.
Create SOPs that outline data management standards and reconciliation workflows across systems.
Reporting and Compliance
Prepare accurate financial reports in accordance with Canadian GAAP and applicable international standards.
Partner with the CFO to produce reporting and analysis for senior leadership and the board.
Manage tax compliance across jurisdictions (Canada, US, UK) and collaborate with auditors during year-end reviews.
Support contract reviews and maintain corporate records, working closely with external counsel.
Serve as a key member of the Client Data Security Committee, ensuring financial systems adhere to company policies and compliance standards.
Maintain documentation of compliance-related processes and internal controls to support audit readiness and transparency.
System Integration and Process Improvement
Lead integration efforts between financial systems (NetSuite, CRM platforms, and other tools).
Perform data reconciliations and validate system accuracy across multiple data sources.
Partner with IT and vendors to improve automation, system performance, and data integrity.
Identify opportunities to simplify workflows, standardize processes, and reduce manual reporting.
Own the documentation of new workflows (SOPs) and process changes, ensuring SOPs stay current with evolving systems and tools.
Shoring up workflows across the entire finance and accounting department.
Acquisition Integration
Support the Finance Manager and CFO in integrating new acquisitions into our accounting and CRM environments
Assess system compatibility, data quality, and reporting requirements during and after acquisitions.
Ensure alignment with financial standards and internal control policies.
Develop post-acquisition SOPs to align new teams and systems with company standards.
Internal Controls and Risk Management
Strengthen internal controls and document procedures that support our growing multi-entity structure.
Contribute to enterprise risk management and compliance initiatives.
Continuously evaluate and improve policies and workflows for scalability and efficiency.
Lead the creation and maintenance of a centralized SOP library for accounting, reporting, and internal control processes.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
CPA designation preferred but not required.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ in a leadership capacity.
Experience managing multi-entity and multi-currency accounting operations.
Strong experience with ERP and CRM systems (e.g., NetSuite, Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar) and cross-system integration.
Exposure to acquisitions and post-acquisition integrations an asset.
Industry experience in media, publishing, or digital-first companies an asset.
Skills
Proficiency with ERP systems such as NetSuite and comfort working with CRM platforms.
Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills.
Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP and familiarity with US/UK accounting standards.
Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-department collaboration skills.
Analytical mindset with an ability to connect operational and financial data.
Exceptional process documentation and SOP development abilities—able to turn complex workflows into clear, repeatable, team-friendly procedures.
This is an in-office position based in Midland, Ontario.
Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Occasional overtime may be required.
