Job Description: Position Purpose summary: The Warehouse Support Worker is responsible for receiving, inspecting, sorting, organizing, and distributing donated and purchased goods for The Salvation Army thrift operations. The role supports uninterrupted flow of merchandise from donation intake to the sales floor or shipping, while maintaining safety, organization, and excellent service to donors, guests and team members. Key Accountabilities The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar duties: 1. Receiving & Shipping Receive and verify shipments and donations against records Inspect goods for quality, damage, and expiry (used by) dates Prepare, label, pack and stage items for internal transfer or shipment Load and unload trucks manually and using pallet jacks/dollies Load outgoing recycled goods (textiles, metals, e-waste, etc.) onto the truck for transfer Perform dump runs for waste or unsellable materials as directed Use warehouse management system, inventory management system to record, facilitate warehouse operations. 2. Sorting & Processing Sort and categorize food and non-food donated items Clean, prepare, and stage items for pricing or distribution Maintain documentation of received/shipped/stored items Remove and dispose of unsellable items in accordance with policy 3. Customer & Internal Service Provide respectful service to donors, guests, contractors, and partners Assist or provide training/instruction to volunteers or Warehouse Support Worker I Work closely with Store management and administration to support flow of goods 4. Operational & Safety Responsibilities Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s Health and safety policies and procedures. Handle small amounts of cash or receipts when authorized Coordinate workflow in absence of Store Manager Uphold TSA mission, conduct, and ethical standards at all times CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT: Internal: Management and staff. External: Donors, contractors. MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Reports directly to the Thrift Store Manager. Direct reports: None. Workflow coordinator. FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT: Moderate material responsibility. Coordinate workflow in absence of Store Manager Regular responsibility for minor financial matters and for wise use of own resources. May be authorized to handle small amounts of cash. Little input to annual budget or revenue projections. The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct. Working Conditions: This is a temporary part-time position. Work schedule may vary from week to week and will include weekdays and/or Saturdays Warehouse environment with dust, noise and temperature changes Constant physical effort: lifting up to 40 lbs., bending, pushing, stacking Use of pallet jacks, dollies, carts and similar equipment Interaction with donors and occasional conflict management Mix of repetitive tasks and high-volume peak periods Deadlines and schedule adherence required education AND experience REQUIREMENTS: Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities. Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures. Ability to provide a satisfactory Criminal Background Check (including Vulnerable Sector / Child Check if position duties require), acceptable solely at the discretion of The Salvation Army Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered. Education, Qualification and Certifications Completion of some high school education Valid driver’s license preferred (required if performing dump run duties) Experience and knowledge One (1) year warehouse or stock-handling experience preferred (thrift or donation environment an asset) Skills & Competencies Strong interpersonal and communication skills Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or in a team Attention to detail with good problem-solving and judgment Able to lift/move items safely and handle physical workload Flexible and able to adapt to changing or peak demands Maintains confidentiality and follows procedures Ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism. Organizational and time-management skills to plan and manage the workload. Willing to complete required background checks Supports and upholds The Salvation Army mission and ethics Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $17.85 to $20.64 with a maximum of $24.77. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
