Job Description
WHAT'S THE JOB?
The Remote Camp Gym/ Fitness Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the camp gym facility, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all users. This role manages member check-ins, equipment maintenance, cleaning, and supports health and safety compliance. The Coordinator collaborates closely with the Lodge Manager and Operations Manager to synchronize gym operations with overall camp schedules and standards, and may assist with reporting, inventory management, and training as needed.
This position requires fly-in/fly-out travel from Edmonton to the project site in Nunavut, with potential for weather-related delays or logistical challenges. This is a safety-sensitive position requiring drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment.
Key Responsibilities:
Customer Service / Front Desk
Greet members and guests, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere.
Handle member check-ins and sign-ups for classes or activities.
Answer questions about gym policies and facility use.
Monitor member access and uphold gym rules.
Process basic payments or merchandise sales if required.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Clean and disinfect gym equipment, mats, and surfaces regularly.
Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors throughout the facility.
Clean restrooms, locker rooms, and shower areas.
Take out trash and restock supplies (paper towels, soap, etc.).
Ensure all areas are tidy, organized, and hazard-free.
Monitor for safety concerns or misuse of equipment.
General Operations
Maintain a visible and helpful presence on the gym floor.
Ensure music, lighting, and facility conditions are appropriate.
Lock up securely and follow all opening/closing procedures.
Assist with inventory, ordering, and receiving supplies for the gym.
Track certifications and training records for gym staff.
File incident reports, inspections, and corrective actions as needed.
Support health, safety, and emergency drill logistics and documentation.
Reporting & Compliance
Uphold and assist in maintaining the HSEQ (Health, Safety, Environment, Quality) program.
Generate reports on gym usage, incidents, and maintenance.
Prepare client-ready daily/weekly reporting packs as required.
Assist in training new team members and maintaining SOPs.
Assist with emergency drill logistics and documentation
Working Conditions:
Project-based role with primary work in Nunavut, flexibility for remote work when not on-site.
Ability to work long shifts and rotational schedules (e.g., 4 weeks on / 2 weeks off or similar).
Endurance to function effectively in remote northern climates, including extreme cold, wind, or lack of daylight during certain periods.
Resilience under isolation conditions—long periods away from home with limited external contact.
Occasional travel to other projects across Canada.
Fly-in/fly-out arrangement; shared accommodations and meals provided while on-site.
Extended periods away from home with possible weather-related travel delays.
Must comply with all company and client health, safety, and operational standards.
Qualifications
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Required Qualifications:
Completion of a college program in recreation, physical education, or a related field.
Previous experience in customer service, facility maintenance, or gym operations.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
3–5+ years in gym-coordination/administration
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) is a plus.
WHMIS and Food Safety (asset); First Aid (asset).
Attention to detail; clear written and verbal communication; customer-service mindset.
Ability to manage competing priorities calmly in a fast-paced, remote environment.
Physical Demands:
Extended periods of standing, walking, and on-site presence in remote locations.
Ability to lift, carry, and move items up to 40–50 lbs.
Work in varying environmental conditions, including extreme weather.
Travel to multiple sites, including fly-in/fly-out locations.
Other Skills and Competencies:
Strong client service focus with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and operational management tools.
Strong understanding of Health & Safety compliance.
Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision during remote shifts.

Work schedule and remuneration:
Remote Camp Gym/Fitness Coordinator work on a rotational schedule in a remote camp setting in Nunavut. They may be required to work weekdays, weekends, and general holidays. The hourly rate is $22.00-$25.00, dependent on experience.
