Unposting Date: 2025-11-21 11:59 PM Your role Radio-Canada Ottawa-Gatineau is looking for a Videojournalist based in its Hawkesbury bureau in Eastern Ontario. We’re seeking someone with strong editorial instincts and an exceptional ability to craft visual and digital storytelling that informs the public across the region — through both written and video formats. If you’re independent, resourceful and curious, this role is for you. You’ll work both independently and as part of a team to research, gather, produce and present content across all our platforms. Your work must align with CBC/Radio-Canada’s programming policies and Journalistic Standards and Practices. Initiative and sound editorial judgment are essential. You’ll be part of the Ottawa-Gatineau newsroom and will work closely with radio programs to ensure your stories reach the widest possible audience. Key responsibilities: Write and communicate effectively across multiple media: digital platforms, radio and television; adapt content for each platform. Work efficiently under pressure and within tight daily deadlines. Capture high-quality photos and video in the field, as well as audio when needed. Stay on top of current events and developments through multiple sources. Organize and conduct interviews in both English and French. Determine story structure — including elements, order, duration, sequencing and transitions. Set up, adjust and operate various cameras and related equipment to ensure optimal audio, video and technical quality in any setting. Edit recorded material using appropriate editing systems. Narrate stories, both on camera and in voice-over. Be flexible to occasionally travel to the Ottawa station to provide support or replacements as needed. Your profile: University or college degree in a relevant field More than three (3) years of relevant experience in radio and television journalism Strong understanding of issues affecting Eastern Ontario, the province as a whole, and the Ottawa-Gatineau region Proven ability to shoot and edit compelling video stories Mastery of visual storytelling techniques that go beyond traditional television formats Comfort and confidence with on-air presentation Strong knowledge of social media and digital platforms Sharp editorial judgment and critical thinking Demonstrated ability to find original story ideas and credible sources Genuine commitment to fostering and promoting a respectful, diverse and inclusive workplace culture Conversational, audience-friendly writing style Ability to respond quickly, efficiently and accurately to breaking news Capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively Ability to work flexible hours, under pressure, and to handle tight deadlines and occasional unexpected overtime Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Excellent command of French and good working knowledge of English Valid driver’s licence and driving record that meets CBC/Radio-Canada’s minimum insurance requirements Valid passport and ability to travel when required Knowledge of the following camera models is an asset: Sony A7S III, Sony PXW x200, Sony A7R iv Knowledge of Avid Media Composer, Photoshop, Lightroom is an asset.
