Position Title: Senior Accountant
Location: Any VLRC Office in Canada
Term: Full-time, Permanent
Reports To: Director, Finance and Controller
Salary: $75,000-$90,000 annually

I. Scope and Summary of Primary Responsibilities
The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial transaction processing, with a focus on journal entries, accounts receivable, accounts payable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance. This role supports the month-end close cycle, funding reporting, and audit preparation to help ensure the financial integrity of Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada. Working in a collaborative nonprofit healthcare environment, the Senior Accountant plays a critical role in supporting service delivery through compliant, reliable financial operations.
II. Essential Functions
General Ledger, Allocations & Month-End Close
Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and program allocations
Complete daily and monthly bank and general ledger reconciliations
Monitor bank activity and ensure accurate allocation of transactions
Reconcile monthly corporate credit card statement
Review ledger activity for accuracy and completeness
Collaborate with operational managers to ensure proper coding across programs
Assist with month-end close deliverables, reporting schedules, and variance analysis
Accounts Receivable & Revenue Accounting
Prepare and process invoices for government funding agencies, specialized programs, and intercompany transactions
Apply payments, record deposits, and reconcile revenue accounts
Maintain accounts receivable aging and assist with collection activities when required
Verify setup and approve new accounts receivable customers
Process and review debit/credit memos
Ensure proper coding and allocation of revenue to programs and funding streams
Accounts Payable & Vendor Management
Process EFT’s and wires payments in compliance with finance policies
Review and approve new vendor setup and payment terms
Support bi-weekly payment runs, ensuring accuracy and appropriate approvals
Manage corporate credit card program
Provide guidance and troubleshooting for employees with Concur expenses
Audit & Compliance
Assist with interim and year-end audits
Respond to auditor requests and provide supporting documentation
File HST rebate
Maintain organized financial records and audit-ready documentation
Support internal control practices to ensure data integrity and compliance with organizational and funding requirements
Systems & Process Improvement
Utilize NetSuite and Concur for transaction processing and reporting
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
Support system upgrades, data validation, and reporting enhancements as required
Education & Experience
5+ years progressive accounting experience, including accounts receivable, accounts payable and general ledger management
Experience with allocations and high-volume transaction processing
Nonprofit or healthcare accounting experience considered an asset
Technical Skills
Strong Excel skills and ERP proficiency (NetSuite preferred)
Familiarity with Concur or similar expense systems
Understanding of GAAP and fund/funding reporting principles
Soft Skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to manage deadlines and high-volume tasks during peak periods
Effective communication and customer service skills
Collaborative, adaptable and comfortable working in a dynamic, mission-driven environment
