Applications are invited for the position of Web & Digital Design Specialist in the Marketing Division, located at the Welland Campus. The starting hourly rate is $34.60/hr (Pay Band G - $34.60/hr to $39.93/hr) for a 35-hour work week. Additional hours may be required as necessary.
Reporting to the Director, Marketing, the successful candidate works as part of a broader marketing unit to assist in designing, implementing and maintaining Niagara College’s external branding and communications presence. The incumbent plays a key role in our marketing department, which functions as an in-house marketing, graphic design and digital media service for the college, in the areas of marketing consultation and plan development, design services, social & digital media, photography & videography, print and web services, event planning and promotional materials.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Collaboratively defining an appropriate web strategy for college sub brands
Consulting with departments and end users on their web goals, ensuring that overall requirements are met while maintaining standards for appearance and usability on their primary website
Performing theme, template and content level edits to WordPress websites using PHP, HTML and CSS, as well as building and updating WordPress based websites
Independently planning, designing, and building high quality, accessible websites from start to finish, including management of client relations, timelines, scoping, project planning and content gathering
Identifying requirements and initiating projects independently to anticipate and address web challenges proactively
Staying updated with the latest web design trends and technologies to enhance project outcomes
Qualifications:
Minimum three (3) year diploma in Multimedia and Web Design or similar field of study
Minimum three (3) years of experience in web design, implementation, monitoring, and maintaining multiple web sites, planning, content structure, and design
Expert knowledge of HTML and CSS, as well as responsive, modern UI and typography design is required
Excellent understanding of advanced HTML5/CSS3, including flex and grid is required
Proven experience in WordPress based accessible web design, adhering to web and accessibility (AODA) standards
Experience in PHP, Javascript/jQuery, WordPress Advanced Custom Fields would be considered an asset
Excellent sense of visual aesthetics (colour, typograph etc.) to create modern web UI elements and layouts that fit within existing brand guidelines
Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and/or Illustrator with an understanding of vector and raster graphics
Excellent time management, communication, organizational and multi-tasking skills
Ability to work independently, gathering feedback and making strategic decisions aligned with college objectives
Working knowledge of Microsoft products, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
