Our facilities are located across the province (Napanee, Halton Hills, Toronto, Niagara Falls and Windsor). This position is located at Atura’s hydrogen production facility the Niagara Hydrogen Centre located in Niagara Falls, ON. General Information
The Plant Manager is accountable for all aspects of the operation of the Plant, including health & safety, environmental performance, profit/loss accountability, commercial operations, staffing, plant operations, and plant maintenance. This role will collaborate with various stakeholders to develop and implement asset optimization strategies, and drive continues improvement, including equipment performance analysis, and budget planning.
Responsibilities
Manage the plant organization in accordance with approved plans and budgets. Accountable for achieving bottom-line (profit/loss) performance in accordance with plans.
Maintain an Environment, Health & Safety management system to provide assurance of compliance with all relevant legislation and regulations, and all relevant Atura Power policies.
Ensure continuous compliance through training, coaching, and mentoring of staff as well as monitoring and auditing controls in place including policies, procedures, work practices, and other regulatory standards that may be in place.
Maximize the value of the plant for Atura Power while complying with all legal requirements and contractual requirements. Working with the Vice President – Operations as well as Director of Finance and the commercial team to prepare and estimate production plans and contracts.
In collaboration with the Asset Management Director, establish maintenance plans as part of the facility business plan. Maintain and execute the facility maintenance system which prescribes maintenance activities and their frequencies, with the objective of the facility meeting or exceeding its pro-forma performance (hydrogen production rates) and availability over its operating life. Maintain the facility in accordance with plans.
Establish spare parts requirements and manage spare parts. Manage warranty claims with contractors. Manage maintenance contracts including Long-Term Service Agreements for major components. Propose facility capital improvement plans to the Vice President – Operations.
Maintain facility operating procedures and a chemistry management system with the objective of the facility meeting or exceeding its pro-forma performance and availability over its operating life. Operate the facility in accordance with the relevant procedures.
Conduct community outreach activities to maintain positive relations with local residents, industries, and elected representatives.
Prepare plant organizational plans, business plans, and budgets for approval by the President including organizational plans that specify staff levels, required staff capabilities, plans for service acquisition from within the Atura Power organization, and plans for service acquisition from third parties.
Develop the facility organization and select staff. Identify training needs and maintain compliance with training requirements. Recommend candidates for senior positions to the President for approval. Maintain staff development and appraisal systems. Manage relations with unions as appropriate.
Establish and maintain effective administrative processes, including accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking and cash management. Ensure that all processes comply with legal and regulatory requirements, and with Atura Power Board policies.
Maintain auditable records of all transactions. Provide monthly reports to the Vice President of Operations covering financial results, environmental and health & safety performance, and facility performance.
Manage Operations and Maintenance staff during any Capital project or Operations & Maintenance major expense activity ensuring policy and procedures which it falls under are followed. Ensure any contractual requirements are met regarding providing support to the respective contractors.
Assist in managing commercial contracts and scheduling of Hydrogen Production
Assist the Chief in developing staff schedules
Qualifications & Education
Strong power plant, chemical facility or gas facility operation and maintenance background
Business acumen with the ability to drive short- and long-term goals and objectives;
Ability to lead and direct employees in performing day to day activities and long-term initiatives;
Strong oral and written communication skills and proven success initiating, promoting, and maintaining interpersonal relationships;
Demonstrated leadership and management skills with diverse work groups;
Superior analysis and problem-solving abilities, coupled with strong decision-making skills;
Post-secondary education in a relevant field, or a combination of experience and education will be considered;
Relevant Red Seal trade certification such as Mechanical/ Electrical/ Instrumentation, First Class Power Engineer, Professional Engineer or a combination of the preceding certifications.
Minimum 10 years of experience in the operation & maintenance of a large industrial facility;
Minimum 5 years of experience in a supervisor and/or management position.
