We are looking for a temporary (12 months, with benefits) Ergonomics and Safe Handling Advisor that will be responsible for implementing and maintaining ergonomic and safe handling programs to prevent workplace injuries and promote employee well-being. Using ergonomics principles, this role involves conducting assessments, providing training, and recommending improvements to ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices to aid in the reduction of musculoskeletal injuries sustained by employees. This position will analyze and identify training needs, provide consulting support to master trainers, and direct support to employees as required. In addition, the role will receive reports on work injuries, assess and report as necessary. Key responsibilities: Subject matter expert and promoter of ergonomics and safe handling in the workplace to all employees and leaders Design, implement and maintain an ergonomics safe patient handling program to be used by all health care professionals Initiate direct referrals to physiotherapy as required Conduct ergonomic assessments for office environment settings Serve as a lead resource when implementing new transfer equipment Provide guidance to managers and employees on musculoskeletal risk elimination or minimization Establish and maintain partnerships with external agencies and organizations committed to ergonomics and safe handling Develop educational materials for training and awareness Intake work injury claims and submit claims with all appropriate documentation to Worksafe NB Create monthly reports on work injuries Responds to general employee inquiries received via ergonomics intake email Perform related administrative functions Qualifications: Possess a post-secondary education with relevant education in a health care discipline, with strong preference for Bachelor degree in Kinesiology Have a minimum of one to three years’ experience in the health care field. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered Basic understanding of workplace ergonomics principles. Preferred master trainer in ergonomics and safe patient handling program or similar training or willing to obtain Additional training in Health and Safety, considered an asset Excellent ability to facilitate training sessions, including constructive remediation on site and post training if necessary Physical ability to perform assigned duties such as demonstrating safe patient handling techniques Excellent communication, networking, presentation, and coaching skills Strong interpersonal and customer service skills Ability to work independently and as a team member Compliance with the rules of confidentiality MS office proficiency.
