Position Title: Data Reporting Analyst
Reports To: Director, Individual Wealth Finance
Department: Individual Wealth Finance & Actuarial
Term: Permanent Full-Time
Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.
What you will be doing:
Responsible for providing timely and accurate daily, month-end, quarter-end and year end financial and management reports
Resident co-expert on the data used to support the Individual Wealth business
Responsible for the accurate and timely data submissions for industry surveys
Development and maintenance of adhoc reports to support the ongoing financial understanding of our business
Supporting data needs for Individual Wealth experience monitoring and assumption reviews
Analyze and reconcile data from multiple sources for interpretation
Build dashboards and look for opportunities to automate and transition reports to self-serve
Identify patterns, trends, outliers in data that could be valuable or actionable to improving Individual Wealth data and LOB
Analyze and investigate data to identify potential gaps and anomalies
Investigate, escalate and communicate findings as appropriate
Provide recommendations and optimal solutions on potential efficiencies based on findings
Preparing and gathering background material including data analysis and applicable trending analysis
Liaison with business stakeholders for various data analytics projects, interpreting their data needs, providing relevant data, and resolving data issues. Help interpret findings related to these projects and recommend ongoing monitoring reports/dashboards.
Participate in meetings and discussions pertaining to data, analytics and reports
Perform other duties as assigned
Develop and maintain monitoring and analytics reports, dashboards and Individual Wealth data
Develop accurate and actionable reports for leaders in the business. Actively search for ways to further improve existing reports to support senior management’s decision-making process
Respond to adhoc critical reporting needs of the business unit
Analyze and interpret data to identify trends, patterns, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement
Ensure data quality, accuracy, and consistency across all data sources and reports
Answer questions and provide explanation on reports and insights produced
What you will bring:
University degree in Finance, Computer Science, Data Management, Business Administration, Mathematics, or related field or equivalent work experience.
3+ years demonstrated experience in quantitative analysis, data management techniques, data engineering techniques and processes, preferably in insurance
Advanced knowledge of Finance, Insurance or Savings products is an asset
Skills to effectively process, review and analyze qualitative and quantitative data and information
Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, managing time effectively to meet deadlines
Excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate complex information to senior leadership, as well as other business partners
Superior analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Process-oriented, looking for ways to improve efficiency and ensure accuracy of reporting
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Documentation & presentation skills
Adaptable to change
Solid Interpersonal skills
Ability to manage time effectively, as projects/work demands change frequently
Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, VBA & Power BI
Working knowledge in data management in transactional/relational databases. MS SQL preferred
Experience using data visualization or business intelligence tools
Expert understanding of and ability to access, consolidate, and understand data from various data sources and generate actionable reports for stakeholders in the business
