Job Description
AECOM Buildings + Places Canada in Markham is looking for an experienced electrical engineer to join our team, where you'll play a major role in the electrical design for projects that shape how communities live, move, and thrive—from transit and civic buildings to commercial, education and water/wastewater facilities.
Your Role
As an electrical engineer on our Buildings + Places team, you will:
Develop various types of reports including schematic design, design development, building assessment, and design build/assist scope of work documents
Prepare electrical drawings and specification
Implement design concept through the preparation and production of drawings to detail lighting, power, fire alarm, and specialty low voltage systems rough-ins (i.e. telecomm., intrusion control, security, CCTV, door access controls, etc.)
Provide technical and administrative support through all phases of the project
Conduct necessary research to gather industry, field, and project specific data
Ensure design conforms with all applicable codes and standards
Integrate advanced tools and standards—leverage SKM, ETAP, Revit, AutoCAD, and ensure designs meet OESC, OBC, IEEE, NFPA, LEED, Net Zero guidelines
Collaborate with other disciplines architecture, mechanical, structural, urban design, sustainability to deliver integrated solutions
Provide client and construction support—serve as technical advisor, review submittals, respond to RFIs, support commissioning, and ensure timely delivery
Respond to contractors technical queries and attending site meetings as well as performing site reviews complete with reports
Review shop drawing to ensure their compliance with the project requirement
Issue SI and CCN to the construction team to mitigate technical issues
Review Contractor`s change quotation and progress billing reports
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, candidates must possess no less than:
University Degree in Electrical Engineering + four (4) years of experience designing HVAC and plumbing for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities.
Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario, in good standing
Preferred Requirements:
Prefer an individual with 10+ years of experience design
Proficiency in system studies—short circuit, arc flash, protective device coordination using SKM or ETAP
Strong knowledge of Canadian electrical codes and standards
Demonstrated experience with power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and building systems
Strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills
Able to work to tight schedules, control project budgets and motivate staff to do the same
Sound judgment supported by excellent technical, analytical and problem-solving skills
Well organized, self-directed work habits with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and schedule tasks managing multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment.
Working knowledge of Revit is a bonus
