This position will act as a technical resource on a variety of planning and development projects and apply their knowledge of City bylaws, regulations and policies to ensure all work meets applicable regulations. This position will also be required to conduct analytical land use assessments, prepare written responses and maps used for Council reports and marketing purposes. The incumbent will be required to review, amend and, in some cases, develop technical solutions using their own experience and judgement to implement the department’s initiatives. Advanced knowledge of computer applications is required such as AutoCAD, POSSE, Excel.
What will you do?
Create maps, graphic and other related technical materials in collaboration with colleagues across the Branch and Section for Land Development Application Submissions (rezoning, subdivision, road closures, plan amendments), leases, sales, acquisitions and bylaws
Create and maintain standards with respect to mapping, graphics and AutoCad file management
Analyze/review and develop technical design solutions during all stages of the land development life cycle including concept designs, fit tests, plan amendments, zoning, subdivision and lotting
Utilize knowledge of the zoning bylaw, Complete Streets and other City land development standards to develop and inform development proposals
Prepare polished, coherent and accurate materials, maps, presentations for Council Reports and Public Meetings on varying timelines and revise materials, as necessary, in response to review comments
Review materials prepared by third parties and respond professionally with comments and advice based on technical experience and knowledge
Completion of a two (2) year diploma in planning, engineering or architectural technology from a recognized institute of technology
A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in work directly related to the work assignments
Skills required for success:
Knowledge of planning, architecture, landscaping and land use planning
Ability to perform expected duties using specific technical software (AutoCad, Google Suite, ArcGIS, Adobe Suite) or the ability to adapt because of related experience using similar software
Excellent time management skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to prioritize workload and competing deadlines
Effective written and oral communication skills
