Reporting to the Manager of Engineering, the Engineering GIS Analyst’s primary responsibility is to maintain the GIS layers aligned with the Engineering and Operations Department. This role combines data input, data analysis and interpretation, and reporting on key trends. The GIS Analyst works closely with Engineering staff to support development, advance capital implementation, and improve transportation, ensuring linear infrastructure changes are updated annually. The GIS analyst works closely with the City’s Finance Division to ensure that the linear asset inventory is updated to advance the Asset Management system. The GIS Analyst also provides direct technical support to the operational Divisions with Engineering and Operations. Support operational staff through mapping and GIS viewer updates, GIS app development, and maintenance and mentoring of operational staff working in the GIS environment.
Qualifications Required:
Post-secondary education with a GIS component (including but not limited to geography, geomatics, planning, forestry) – please specify how your education meets this requirement
Minimum two (2) years of relevant GIS experience using ESRI GIS platforms
Proficiency with the Microsoft 365 suite
Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu
Experience with maintaining large linear data
Experience using and building ESRI ArcGIS Field Maps, Survey123, Experience Builder, and Dashboards
Experience using ESRI suite software
What You’ll Do:
GIS data management: Convert and integrate engineering drawings, CAD data, and field surveys into ArcGIS, ensuring seamless access to critical Engineering and Operations information.
Mapping & Visualization: Design high-quality maps and graphics for reports, presentations, and decision-making, providing clear insights into infrastructure assets.
Data Governance & Standards: Continue to develop and implement standards for data collection, storage, and retrieval, and dissemination, ensuring accuracy and consistency across the Engineering & Operations in line with City of Fredericton standards.
Collaboration & Support: Work closely with engineering consultants, developers, survey firms, and internal departments (Water & Sewer, Planning, IT, Legal) to provide and integrate GIS data and support engineering development activities.
Technical Leadership: Lead GIS-related projects within Engineering and Operations and provide technical support to Engineering and Operations staff, enhancing the efficiency of GIS tasks through the development of automation.
Spatial Analysis & Geoprocessing: Conduct geospatial analysis to support infrastructure planning and decision making.
Software & Hardware Support: Troubleshoot GIS software issues, providing timely solutions to technical problems
GIS Policy Development: Assist in creating GIS policies, procedures, and standards to ensure data consistency and quality within the organization
What You Bring:
Technical Proficiency
Serve as technical lead for GIS and data solutions for Engineering and Operations, including developing automated GIS tasks to improve efficiency (scripted or ModelBuilder)
Extensive experience with ESRI products, including ArcGIS Pro, and maintaining GIS databases
Proficiency in developing and using ArcGIS Online applications (Survey123, Field Maps, Dashboards, Experience Builder, etc.)
Experience with spatial data, GIS databases, SQL, and metadata management
Ability to conduct asset management reviews and updates (multiple large datasets)
Experience editing large datasets in ESRI software
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and relevant GIS and CAD tools (Bluebeam,
Familiarity with Autodesk and AutoCAD
Familiarity with bringing AutoCAD dwg files into ESRI
