The Senior Wholesale/Demand Planner is responsible for merchandise planning, forecasting, and inventory management to maximize sales and profitability across all channels. This role bridges merchandising, sales, and supply chain operations to ensure product availability while minimizing excess inventory.
Responsibilities
Planning and Forecasting
Develop and maintain merchandise plans and forecasts to predict future product demand
Monitor forecast accuracy and implement continuous improvement measures
Calculate and manage open-to-buy budgets by category, season, and channel
Monitor purchase commitments against open to buy plans
Adjust buying plans based on sales performance, inventory levels, and market trends
Recap, analyze and communicate actual to plan results
Support new product launches with initial forecasting and demand ramp-up planning
Analysis and Reporting
Analyze sales performance and identify opportunities for growth
Prepare and present sales forecasts, performance metrics, and inventory reports
Provide ad-hoc reporting and analysis as needed
Prepare regular reports on key performance metrics
Inventory Management
Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment strategies
Partner with production and logistics to ensure timely product delivery
Manage inventory levels to maximize product availability while minimizing carrying costs
Costing Analysis
Review and analyze product costing to ensure accuracy
Monitor gross margin (GM) and contribution margin (CM) performance by product, category, and channel
Track and analyze the impact of tariffs and duties on product costs and margins
Business Partnering
Build and maintain strong relationships with wholesale customers and internal teams
Participate in business planning meetings with wholesale customers
Provide planning insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making
Lead cross-functional meetings to align on demand forecasts and inventory strategies
Partner with sales teams to understand customer needs, and promotional calendars
Collaborate with merchandising on assortment planning, seasonal buys, and product lifecycle management
5+ years of experience in retail/wholesale planning, demand planning, or merchandise planning
Experience working with US mass market accounts
Strong analytical aptitudes, must be precise and rigorous
Advanced knowledge of MS Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, complex formulas)
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain, or related field is an asset
Experience with inventory management and demand forecasting
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to translate complex data into actionable insights
Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational abilities
Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments
Experience in wholesale or multi-channel distribution environments
Experience with ERP systems and business intelligence tools
Knowledge of fashion/retail industry trends and seasonality
Demonstrated success in inventory optimization
Strong problem-solving abilities and business acumen
