Work Location: Winkler Food Store, 370 Main Street, Winkler
On-site work only. No remote work available.

Position Description:
The Assistant Manager works closely with the Manager to support the achievement of the Grocery Department’s short‑term goals and objectives. In this role, the assistant manager oversees department operations, drives sales performance, ensures excellent customer service, manages staff, and maintains compliance with company standards to achieve business goals.
The Assistant Grocery Manager embodies the Co‑op Brand, fostering strong, positive relationships with both team members and customers.
Key Responsibilities
Living the Brand:
Consistently represent the Co-op brand; to know, understand and live Gardenland Co-op’s vision, mission and values.
Be a Co-op ambassador by understanding the Cooperative Retailing System (CRS) and have a good understanding of the cooperative business model.
Operational Oversight:
Execute day-to-day responsibilities of the department ensuring efficiency and adherence to department standards and company policies.
Support the manager with scheduling, expense control and merchandising effectiveness.
Create and implement promotions and marketing initiatives.
Lead and guide staff on customer experience initiatives and expectations.
Ensure proper merchandising guidelines are followed and productivity targets achieved.
Lead by example by stocking shelves, freezers, etc.
Follow through on goals and key performance indicators.
Management & Performance:
Provide leadership, direction and oversight to the department.
Follow performance management program.
Consistently deliver feedback to team members.
Ensure performance expectations are met or exceeded for all team members.
Participate in the hiring of new team members.
Conduct onboarding steps and safety orientations for team members.
Follow the safety program and follow through on all safety initiatives.
Administration:
Complete required administrative tasks accurately and in a timely manner.
Conduct daily and/or monthly inspections.
Qualifications:
Class 5 license preferred but not required.
Intermediate or higher computer skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, especially Excel, Outlook and Word.
Strong oral communication skills (English). Good written communication skills required. (English). Ability to understand and communicate well with others.
Ability to lift 50 lbs on occasion, 15-30 lbs repeatedly.
Ability to stand for extensive periods of time and walk extensively while on shift.
Ability to perform a variety of tasks that include dexterity, pushing and pulling, reaching, bending, squatting and getting up and down from the floor.
Management experience preferred but we are willing to train the right individual.
