Job Description: Reporting to the Director, Applied Research, the incumbent is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the administrative operations of the applied research office. Serving as the main point of contact for department and research project related HR activities, the incumbent is responsible for coordinating and supporting the hiring, on-boarding, orientation, and payment of approximately 200 part-time research employees annually, to align with college Human Resources procedures. As needed, the incumbent will also support the Director on special projects, as well as the planning and hiring of student positions to support office operations. This position serves the roles of policy analyst in support of the Director on the development and maintenance of new and existing institutional research policies, as well as fosters an environment that promotes integrity in research through the development and maintenance of resources, workshops, and information sessions for the College’s research community on topics such as responsible conduct of research, research security, research ethics, among others. Coordinating Algonquin College’s Research Ethics Board is a key component of this position. The incumbent manages the submission, review, revision and approval of research protocols involving human participants at Algonquin College. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that research conducted at Algonquin College adheres to the regulatory requirements, guidelines, policies, and procedures defined by institutional, provincial, national and international research ethics bodies; and has decision making authority on the need for ethical approval. The position involves responsibility for research ethics coordination; liaison activities both internal to the campus and with external institutions; records management; and facilitating training and outreach activities for board members, staff and the research community. The incumbent must be able to interpret policies and guidelines and apply them in practice in a variety of diverse and sensitive situations. This position demands initiative and a high level of independent decision making. Problem solving is based on the ability to critically evaluate information from a variety of internal and external sources. This position will be expected to make decisions within the scope of delegated responsibility and have a good understanding of internal and external organizational structures in which to resolve complex issues and concerns. This position fulfils a highly visible role in the Algonquin College Office of Applied Research. In addition, sound judgement, critical thinking, strong decision making, and budgetary skills and the ability to take decisive action will be needed in every aspect of this position. Required Qualifications Minimum of a three (3) year diploma/degree or equivalent in research administration, human resources management, business administration, project management, or related field. Completion of CORE (Course on Research Ethics) through Panel on Research Ethics Certificate in research administration, completed or in progress, would be an asset Minimum of three (3) years recent and related experience in applied research administration and supporting the post award process, recent and relevant experience in administration of research ethics (Human participants), recent and relevant experience providing advice to management in an academic, research environment. recent and relevant experience with financial processes, such as budgeting, reconciliations, payroll, etc. Highly effective organizational skills with keen attention to detail Strong time management, planning, analytical, and decision-making skills Proven ability to exercise good judgement and diplomacy in difficult situations Proficiency with MS Office applications including SharePoint Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Experience with Workday would be an asset This position is paid at Payband I Vacancy is for P22735 This position is eligible for hybrid work in conjunction with the College's Flexible Work Arrangement Policy. https://www.algonquincollege.com/policies/hr26/ (subject to change).
