Reporting directly to the Clinical Manager of the CIBC Breast Assessment Centre, Colposcopy, and Cancer Genetics, the Genetic Counsellor, together with a team of medical oncologists and other health care professionals, provides family risk assessment, diagnosis, management, education and support to patients and their families. The duties include obtaining patient histories, reviewing relevant data, determining the risk of hereditary cancer syndromes and eligibility for genetic testing. Additional duties include, but are not restricted to, development and maintenance of the regional cancer genetics care pathway, liaising with the laboratory for specimen collection and coordination, participation in research, and supervision of student learners and volunteers.
- Master’s Degree from an (ABGC) accredited Genetic Counselling Program.
- American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) and/or Canadian Board of Genetic Counselling - Conseil Canadien de Conseil Génétique (CBGC - CCCG) certified and/or board eligible.
- Previous experience in a cancer genetics clinic preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the issues surrounding screening for genetic susceptibility to disease.
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computer software such as MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and electronic health record systems.
