Contract Finance Manager – (20-22 month Contract)
Job Description
Caradoc Townsend Mutual Insurance Company (CTM), established in 1879, is seeking an experienced Controller for a 20–22-month contract to cover a parental leave. This role will report directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer.
CTM is a financially strong, growth-oriented, policyholder-owned, property and casualty Mutual insurer with an annual Gross Written Premium (GWP) of $22 million. We keep our promises and provide peace of mind through high-quality insurance products and coverage for personal, agriculture, and commercial lines. Our dedicated sales group services a membership-client base stretching from Strathroy to Niagara, with two offices, one in Kilworth and the other in Waterford.
The successful applicant will be part of the Leadership Team overseeing Company operations. They will take a leadership role in long-term business and financial planning while building meaningful and productive relationships with business leaders and process owners.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Managing the processes for financial reporting and generation of quarterly and annual financial statements under IFRS. Researching technical accounting issues for compliance.
Guiding and/or reviewing all formal finance related procedures including monthly financial reporting working papers and journal entries, weekly payments, and biweekly payroll.
Overseeing the budgeting process and cash flow management.
Building strong relationships with senior management and internal/external stakeholders (includes brokers, clients, suppliers, mutual insurance community, and staff) and communicating with them effectively in order to introduce process improvement and change projects in the organization.
Maintaining effective internal controls over financial transactions and initiating and integrating process improvement methodologies where appropriate.
Leading the external audit preparation process and maintaining collaborative relationships with the external auditors and actuary.
Directing, supervising and coaching of accounting staff within all finance operations including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and financial reporting.
Managing corporate compliance with financial legislative, regulatory, and contractual commitments including preparation of the quarterly PC1 report to regulators.
Presenting monthly financial reporting and other financial information to the Board of Directors.
Coordinating, preparing, and providing staff support for Audit Committee meetings and Investment Committee meetings. Assisting with management of external services providers, investment portfolio, involvement in investment decisions, and monitoring of investment compliance/performance

The successful candidate will provide governance assistance in our grassroots membership organization, with responsibility for overseeing select compliance requirements and assisting committees of the Board of Directors.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, or an equivalent combination of professional experience and education.
Minimum 5 years functional and technical experience; preferably in a financial services environment (direct or indirect) and includes supervisory experience.
Requires in-depth knowledge of principles and methods within the field of Finance. Experience with IFRS is essential.
Significant judgement and / or consultation with stakeholders is required to effectively identify and analyze problems.
Requires regular negotiation and facilitation of conflict resolution with internal and / or external stakeholders.
Requires highly developed listening and verbal communication skills to understand complex stakeholder needs or problems that are often technical in nature.
Requires ability to clarify technical concepts in non-technical language and may deliver formal presentations to a variety of audiences. Includes composing highly complex written material in a non-standardized format, which may include technical letters, proposals, presentation materials, reports, etc., customized as appropriate to the audience.
Valid driver’s license as some travel required.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, including advanced working knowledge of Excel.
Well-developed technology and data reporting skills

This is a hybrid position with the opportunity to work both remotely and from the office. We are open to fully remote candidates as well depending on geographic location.
Preference will be given to candidates that can fulfill the full-time role based on the requirements listed above; however, CTM remains open to considering a fractional arrangement.
