Currently, the City of Belleville has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, strategic, and dynamic individual to join our Engineering and Development Services Department as an Engineering Technologist.

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, Construction, the Engineering Technologist is responsible for working with Engineering staff to assist with contract administration and perform inspection of infrastructure associated with capital construction projects, new subdivisions and site plans, including, but not limited to, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, pumping stations, stormwater management ponds, road, sidewalks, lot grading and street lighting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will:
Provide timely, accurate information to the Senior Project Manager, and respond appropriately to their direction.
Provide inspection for capital construction projects by assuring compliance with City specifications, including the maintaining of comprehensive daily records and material testing and/or sampling.
Provide contract administration support for capital construction projects and supervise to completion and acceptance, including: prepare cost estimates, plans, contract documents, progress payments, review tenders, co-ordinate utilities involved and the preparation of necessary government approvals.
Provide inspection of municipal services installed in subdivisions by confirming compliance with City specifications and subdivision agreements, including the maintaining of comprehensive daily records, and ensuring material testing and/or sampling is performed.
Review lot grading in subdivisions and site plans to ensure compliance with approved grades and elevations.
Assist in the review and provide comments for project design, including those created by Engineering staff, external consultants and/or municipal utilities.
Assist with the review and provide comments for designs of subdivisions and site plans.
Investigate and ensure public nuisance complaints such as street sweeping, dust control, noise control, temporary traffic control, etc. are promptly resolved.
Perform survey work as it relates to inspection on capital construction contracts and/or subdivisions.
Communicate professionally, and effectively with all stakeholders and members of the general public, promoting a high standard of customer service.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/SPECIALIZED SKILLS:
Minimum Qualifications:
Three (3) year advanced diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent with C.E.T. Certification.
Member of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technologists and Technicians (OACETT).
Class “G” Ontario Drivers’ Licence; clean driver’s abstract held and maintained, use of vehicle for work related travel.
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (“CRC”) prior to commencing work at the City of Belleville.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Required Qualifications:
Two (2) years’ experience with inspection of roads water and wastewater projects in a Municipal environment.
Proven ability to effectively manage diverse stakeholders, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and time management skills.
Proven-related computer skills such as Microsoft Office Suite e.g. Excel, and Word.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of standards and specifications such as OPSS, OPSD, Ontario Traffic Manuals and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Proven working knowledge of GIS with hands-on experience in utilizing GIS tools for data analysis and mapping tasks.
