Position Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated female Supportive Roommate and Community Access (CA) Contractor to support a 70-year-old man with complex needs in a full-time residential role. This individual is transitioning out of the home he has lived in for over 22 years and requires a gradual and supportive move into a new living arrangement located in Northeast Calgary. The individual you will be supporting has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, anxiety, limited cognitive abilities, and skin cancer (carcinoma). He also presents with paranoid and obsessive-compulsive tendencies and experiences frequent episodes of anxiety. Despite these challenges, he is somewhat independent and enjoys engaging in community activities, especially day trips to Airdrie, Chestermere, and Strathmore. The successful candidate will begin with respite care and eventually transition into a full-time live-in role.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will provide both emotional and practical support. Responsibilities include:
Assisting with daily living tasks such as personal hygiene reminders, cleaning, and organizing his living space.
Preparing meals and supporting with food planning and cooking.
Monitoring medication and ensuring appointments are booked and attended.
Driving or accompanying the individual to medical appointments and community outings.
Supporting the individual in maintaining routines and engaging in meaningful activities.
Participating in regular team meetings and collaborating with wraparound service providers.
About You the Requirements:
Gender: Female (non-negotiable as the client request)
Location: Must reside in NE Calgary
Availability: No other full-time job; flexible schedule
Living Arrangement: Basement suite preferred, with access to main level
Household: No small children preferred
Rate of Pay:
This is a contract position with a total monthly compensation of $6,132.57, broken down as follows:
$2,512.59 for the Community Access (CA) Contractor role (taxable; contractor is responsible for remitting taxes to the Canada Revenue Agency).
$3,619.98 for the Supportive Roommate role (non-taxable).
During the initial transition period, the candidate will provide respite care at a rate of $22.41 per hour, up to 6 hours per week, with a maximum monthly invoice of $584.
Home Environment:
He is capable of using public transportation within NE Calgary, he requires consistent support and reminders to complete daily tasks. The team supporting him is small and collaborative, with regular communication and flexibility in scheduling.
Minimum Requirements:
Minimum of a Diploma or Certificate in the Human Services field or Disability Sector
Must have valid class 5 drivers license and a reliable vehicle with minimum $2,000,000 liability insurance
Provide Home insurance and Commercial Liability insurance
One to two years relevant experience in the human services field
Intermediate in computer skills
Minimum required training in Emergency First Aid & CPR Level A
Willing to make appropriate modifications for the individual’s access requirements in the home
Home visit & assessment required
Preferred Requirements:
Previous experience working with seniors would be an asset
Previously trained in and have experience with medication administration
Other current and relevant trainings such as Non-violent Crises Intervention, Abuse Prevention Response Protocol, Positive Behavior Supports, etc.
