Why we have this role:
As the Manager for the Valley Feeds store, you will oversee daily operations, lead a team of full and part-time staff, drive sales, and ensure an outstanding customer experience. You’ll also support inventory, merchandising, and help customers find and load the right products.
Working with us:
This 20-month contract role is based at our Valley Feeds store at 486 Main Street in Cambridge, Ontario, covering a maternity leave. The store operates Monday to Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and your core working hours will be Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
What you’ll do:
Drive Sales & Profitability
Support and grow store sales.
Identify customer needs and product opportunities.
Follow pricing guidelines and focus on promoting key products.
Reduce waste, manage shrink, and support upselling initiatives.
Lead & Develop Your Team
Hire, onboard, and train new staff.
Oversee schedules, time-off requests, and accurate payroll reporting.
Lead daily huddles and maintain strong communication.
Set performance goals, provide coaching, and conduct reviews.
Address challenges promptly and foster a positive, collaborative team culture.
Deliver Outstanding Customer Service
Model excellent customer service and coach your team.
Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly.
Ensure accurate POS procedures and compliance with CFIA feed-sale requirements.
Oversee Store Operations
Support purchasing, inventory, receiving, merchandising, and warehouse tasks.
Oversee till closeouts, cash handling, and reporting.
Maintain top-tier store cleanliness and merchandising standards.
Support marketing displays, promotions, and SOP compliance.
Lead Local Marketing Initiatives
Plan engaging specials and sales promotions.
Collaborate with GVF Marketing on digital ads and creative content.
Maintain appealing exterior displays and identify new product opportunities.
Your background includes:
5 years+ of store management experience in fast-paced, high-volume retail settings.
Post-secondary education in retail management, business, marketing, or a related field (considered an asset).
Proven leadership skills with experience in team development and coaching.
Strong operational expertise, including budgeting, inventory management, merchandising, and cost control.
Agricultural or farming experience is required; a genuine passion for gardening, hobby farming, birding, or pet nutrition
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills.
