What We’re Looking For
As an Entry Full-Stack Java Developer at Northern, you will learn to build and maintain digital marketing solutions for our clients under the guidance of our senior development team. As a member of our Experience development team, you will work alongside experienced developers and technical leads to grow your skills in developing dynamic, responsive and efficient web applications through hands-on experience with front-end and back-end technologies.
Full-time remote is available nationally. Our Connected Workplace Program gives you the option to choose a remote, hybrid or in-office workspace! (within Canada)

What You'll Be Doing
Participate in cross-functional project teams through sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and sprint retrospectives, learning development best practices while contributing to team deliverables.
Work with senior developers and stakeholders to understand requirements and implement technical solutions under guidance and code review.
Develop features and components that meet business requirements while learning best practices for Experience development through mentorship.
Create and maintain documentation for your work, including code comments and basic technical specifications, with support from senior team members.
Actively learn and grow your technical skills, seeking feedback and participating in knowledge-sharing sessions with the team.
Maintain a high level of professionalism and integrity in all interactions, representing the Experience development team and organization positively.
Knowledge, Education & Experience Required
Educational background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (degree, diploma, or bootcamp certification) OR demonstrable self-taught skills with portfolio/projects
Foundational knowledge of Java and object-oriented programming concepts
Basic understanding of web development fundamentals including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Familiarity with version control systems (Git)
Eagerness to learn modern development frameworks and tools
Strong problem-solving abilities and willingness to ask questions
Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
Strong initiative and desire for continuous learning
Bonus Skills!
Personal or academic projects demonstrating Java development
Any exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Familiarity with modern development tools (IntelliJ IDEA, VS Code)
Basic understanding of performance concepts or monitoring tools
Any experience with Python scripting or automation
Exposure to GitLab/GitHub workflows
Interest in or experimentation with AI development tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor or similar)
