Job Description
Internal Job Title: Electronics Engineer
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Position Summary
As an Electronics Engineer in our Product Development group, you will play a key part in the selection, test, evaluation, and support of electronics and systems that support a range of CBN identity products and identity-adjacent systems. The position requires a generalist, with a broad range of interests and abilities, and a particular focus on HF RFID products.
Responsibilities
Design, Development, Test and Support
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and architectural specifications.
Work closely with critical suppliers to ensure a mutually supportive relationship.
Evaluate, test, and support electronic hardware for smartcards, camera and PC peripherals applications.
Work with other team members in image processing and computer vision tasks.
Apply cryptography and security technology knowledge to ePassport and smartcard projects.
Conduct system-level debugging, validation, and performance optimization.
Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in electronics, smartcards, and image processing. Research and recommend improvements to existing products and designs.
Provide troubleshooting support to resolve hardware issues in deployed systems.
Documentation
Create detailed documentation that captures design processes, technical specifications, and test procedures.
Compliance
Ensure product designs meet industry standards (FCC, CE, RoHS, ISO) and regulatory requirements.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and security protocols for eID and ePassport systems (e.g., ISO/IEC, ICAO, EMV, GlobalPlatform).
Qualifications
Education and Knowledge
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related
Knowledge of the following:
Smartcard and RFID (HF and UHF) systems and operations
Antenna theory
Image processing
Nice to have (but not required):
Familiarity with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) ePassport standards and compliance frameworks
Familiarity with ISO SC17 standards
Post-Quantum cryptography

3-7 years of experience in relevant position (electrical engineering, embedded systems, smartcards, etc.)

Embedded Systems: Smartcard Security processors, ARM Cortex, AVR, Raspberry Pi.
Programming Languages: Java, JavaCard, C#, Python, ISO 7816.
Industry Standards & Compliance: ISO, ICAO, AAMVA, FCC, CE, RoHS.
Mandatory Requirements
Language: Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking)
Security Clearance: Ability to obtain (in a timely manner) and maintain Government of Canada Secret (Level II) personal security clearance
