Are you a Driver Trainer with a passion for Safety?
Role: The ideal candidate will be someone who has a proven track record as a commercial truck driver coupled with training/instructional skills to develop new recruits as well as existing drivers. The individual selected for this position will evaluate the driving skills of potential driver candidates. In addition, the Driver Trainer will conduct safety training according to XTL's well-defined training program for drivers. Through follow-up and coaching, the Driver Trainer will be an advocate for the required professional behaviors and expectations set forth by XTL Transport Inc.
Schedule: Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm
Responsibilities:
Log Auditing
Commence each day addressing E-Log conflicts, unidentified logs and uncertified logs. Take corrective action with drivers to prevent being in violation of the regulations. Document all training and corrective action.
Investigate Telematics data
Review all telematics data for at risk behavior. Take corrective action with drivers. Document all training and corrective action.
Create Safety trends for drivers using bendex data, coach/address poor performing drivers
HOS/Speed gauge/MPG violations/ reporting
Review Safety Direct, Trend and Analyze
Provide remedial training to drivers
Circle Check & Driver Road Skill Testing
Prepare a planned route that tests all the skills and elements of safe driving and professional behavior.
Conduct a thorough evaluation of drivers circle check and driving skills - documented
Provide coaching on any areas that need attention and have driver sign off
Orientation & Mentor Program
Conduct new-hire safety & orientation training; including all safety and compliances policies and procedures
Conduct Road tests
Maintain and update the Driver Handbook and relevant safety & compliance sections
Track training via AS400 and ensure certificate issuance
Manage Driver supplies/inventory and records of receipt
Train Mentors
Co-ordinate Mentor assignments with Operations
Participate in Mentor Meeting
Enter mentor pay
30 / 60 / 90 + Annual Review
Blitz Audits
Monitor drivers performance and provide coaching / corrective action
Document progress at time of review
Conduct yard "blitz's" to promote compliance awareness concerning: CT-PAT, Pre/Post Inspections/Log Book /3-point hand hold
Elevate to management any performance that is not responding to coaching / corrective actions
Prevention / Retention / Continuous Improvement
Participate in resolving system issues (PeopleNet / Mir2Mir / Speed Gauge)
Participate in the development of training materials for new initiatives, equipment or regulations
Collaborate with other div. on methods to keep training fresh and relevant
Maintain & promote training schedule including "open classes" that are available to divers looking to refresh skills
Pro-actively inspect, road test and follow-up on all unseated trucks to ensure they are in proper order
Participate in the monthly production of Driver Newsletter or bulletins
Participate in Driver Safety meetings and proactive training initiatives
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives (quality, risk reduction, prevention)
Coordinate with counter terminals in an effort to ensure driver handbooks are up-to-date and accurate
Coordinate and organize 6 safety blitzes per year
Accidents and Health and Safety Program
On call to assist in responding to Accidents
Participate (as required) during accident investigations
Interview drivers for root cause and with the assistance of HR, prescribe corrective action
Ensure accidents are reported to management asap, have driver fill out accident report, send to Management and add report to DC
Work with Director of Safety to determine if there is any course of action required for the driver, any training needed etc...
Document all training and corrective action...
Responsible for the overall Health and Safety Program
Oversee and chair the Safety Committee for assigned terminal
Appoint and direct the safety committee members. Ensure inspections and incident reviews focus on claim prevention - particularly in areas that we've experienced injury or incidents of concern
Lead the Health and Safety Meetings
Responsible for OH&S compliance
Responsible for Meeting Minutes and to follow up on items that arise from the meetings
Elevate issues of concern
Requirements:
Minimum 5 years of commercial vehicle driving experience in Canada and US
Lead and develop the mentor team
Possess and can demonstrate a strong knowledge of safety and compliance in transportation
Proven ability to instruct/teach/facilitate in a classroom setting and deliver training programs
Ability to work with technical tools such as E-logs and compliance applications
Ability to clearly demonstrate current knowledge in the following subjects:
Hours of Service
Fatigue prevention
Dangerous Goods
Defensive Driving
WHMIS/Health and Safety
Possess a valid class 1 license
